My nursing experience started by floating around the hospital from floor to floor to gain knowledge in each specialty following graduating from Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology & Psychology in 2019 and from Trinity College of Nursing & Health Sciences with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2020. While starting my nursing career, I immediately returned to school for my Doctorate of Nursing Practice - Psychiatric Mental Health at Regis College. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my goal is to work against the stigma around mental health. I believe in a holistic approach and active listening to my patients needs. In sessions focused on psychiatric mental health care, clients can expect a supportive and safe environment where they can explore their thoughts and feelings openly. This was the first doctor who actually told me the truth and took the time to explain things in a way I could understand. She didn’t brush anything off or rush through, she listened, validated my concerns, and helped me realize that more harm had been done in the past than good. Dr. Haley Lawrence was wonderful. She was clearly knowledgeable on the reason behind my appointment and the subject itself, there was a decent amount of paperwork/assessments to complete prior to our visit but it did seem pertinent and it was also clear she had thoroughly reviewed this (and therefore not a waste of time filling out).
