Determine what was really going on with me. I told him I was depressed but he did not try to determine how severe it was, or whether I was at risk for hurting myself or others. He did not try to determine what kind (if any) of support system I had or if there was any risk of me trying to hurt myself. The answer to improving mental health care in California is to increase the number of practicing psychiatrists so that patients can rely on getting thorough assessments, appropriate medications and careful follow-up. Do you know how it feels to try to share critical info about how you are feeling when the doctor cannot even look at you because he/she is too busy typing the notes? I know it will be difficult to fix
But please try!
