Welcome to Island Digestive Care, the practice of Dr. Farkas-Diskind and Dr. Berkowitz. We are dedicated to providing patients with cutting edge gastroenterology and hepatobiliary care in a comfortable and respectful environment. We care for patients in the ambulatory and hospital setting, and are affiliated with North Shore University Hospital, and St. Francis Hospital. We look forward to welcoming you to the practice.

This office was off to the side of what looked like an urgent care/walk-in clinic, when I arrived and went to the side where a sign was pointing to for gastro nobody was there and the lights were off. When someone, not a nurse, a receptionist maybe, arrived, 10 minutes after my appointment time, we went over to the other side which was one unfurnished room with a rolling desk and a few messy exam rooms. I waiting another 10/15 minutes, the doctor clearly was not in the building. Then I sat in an exam room for another 10 minutes. The doctor finally arrived 30 minutes after my appointment time with a fresh cup of Starbucks in hand. This was beyond unprofessional and disrespectful of my time. I would not trust him medically after this behavior.

Dr. Berkowitz was trustworthy. He was very knowledgeable and willing to help my situation. I felt like he was a member of my own family and talked about how he used the same treatment with his brother. The provider was patient and answered all of my questions. The doctor does not use scare tactics, but provides information in a professional way. He also took me right in so I didn’t have to wait. I appreciate his time and level of care.

Dr. Berkowitz is truly one of a kind. He’s an amazing listener and always takes his time during appointments—I never feel rushed. As someone who struggles with anxiety, I really appreciate how patient and calm he is. He answers all of my questions thoroughly and makes me feel heard and supported every step of the way. It’s clear that he genuinely cares about his patients.
He’s also made me feel completely at ease discussing sensitive GI issues, which isn’t always easy. The receptionist is always friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better. Highly recommend this office!

Both my wife and I were extremely happy with Dr Berkowitz. He was knowledgeable, courteous and patient with us. He was particularly helpful with my wife. We had been to no less than 10 gastroenterologists and none of them were able to solve her problems. Dr Berkowitz did. We highly recommend him.

I brought my 88 yo mom in to see him at West Hempstead office. GPS probs, but he was willing to wait for us (last appt) for over 30 minutes!! Big ramp leading to door, have to buzz, door swings towards you, so getting mom in took me yelling "wheelchair, help," which a patient did. This was GI doctor #3. I provided the latest blood, urine, and catscan results. He explained everything, listened to both me and my mom, and gave a complete and honest, best guess diagnosis (not doing colonoscopy). His suggestions were helpful, and going to give them a shot. I didn't feel like he was blowing us off, like other doctors. Honest and compassionate.
