James Scott Creighton, PsyD

General Information: James Scott Creighton, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist, professional mediator, arbitrator, educator, administrator, speaker, and motivational coach. Throughout his career, he has developed significant wisdom, flexibility of thought, compassion, and keen insight into human behaviors across different social contexts. Dr. Creighton is dedicated to helping individuals who feel stuck, lack motivation, or struggle against social conventions feel understood, supported, and ready to grow. Education and Experience: Dr. Creighton began his academic journey in a small Texas town, completing his undergraduate degree at Abilene Christian University. He then moved to Florida, earning a Doctorate (Psy.D.) and Master's (M.S.) in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University. His postdoctoral Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology fellowship was completed at McLean Hospital, a teaching hospital for Harvard Medical School, from 1990 to 1992. During this time, he was appointed as a Psychology Instructor at Harvard Medical School (1990-1994). Dr. Creighton’s academic contributions continued as adjunct faculty at Wheelock College and the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology, where he taught general and abnormal psychology, child development, and psychological testing courses. Transitioning to private practice, he worked in Boston, MA, from 1994 to 2012, serving individuals, families, schools, and public figures. Concurrently, he held roles at the Institute for Child and Adolescent Development as a Staff Psychologist, Director of Training, and later Clinical Director. After relocating to Houston in 2015, Dr. Creighton expanded his expertise to include alternative dispute resolution (ADR). He obtained certificates in Basic Mediation, Advanced Family-Divorce-Child Custody Mediation, Adult and Elder Mediation, Arbitration, and Parent Coordination/Facilitation. He lectures on family dynamics and psychological variables in mediation and has mediated and arbitrated for the BBB in Greater Houston. His presentation at the Texas Association for Mediators Conference in 2017 explored the intersection of mental health and mediation. Dr. Creighton secured his Texas license to practice psychology in 2022. His work at Stepping Stone Therapy in Webster and Deer Oaks Behavioral Health Initiative has further diversified his skill set, particularly in Relationship Therapy, Adult Family Therapy, and older adult mental health. He is pursuing certifications in Grief Counseling and Dementia Care and completing advanced (Level II) Gottman Training. Primary Interests: Dr. Creighton specializes in Family Conflict, Relationship Counseling, Psychological Assessments, Adult Psychology, Mediation, Loss and Shame, and Family Therapy. He has extensive experience working with ADHD, anger management, anxiety, behavior issues, emotional conflicts, career counseling, men's issues, narcissistic personality disorder, parenting issues, peer and relationship issues, learning interferences, grief, stress, and self-esteem. Committed to community service, education, empowerment, growth, and personal accountability, Dr. Creighton is developing a Homework Therapy program to support his clients further. His dedication to continuous learning and professional development ensures he provides the highest-quality care to those he serves.
