Dr. Putnam listened, didn’t make an immediate assessment, and really wanted to understand how I was feeling. The last person I went to made a 15 min assessment on my whole mental health issue and couldn’t have been more wrong. I felt the exact opposite about Dr. Putnam.

It was my first time seeing Dr. Putnam and I didn’t expect a long visit, as most psychiatrist appointments are around 15 minutes but he took about 45 mins to talk with me and understand my history. Dr. Putnam was incredible; he listened, was thorough about his diagnosis and gave me a clear action plan along with a heads up as to any hurdles I might encounter but providing reassurance that he would be available should I need to see him prior to our scheduled follow-up. Highly recommend; 10/10.
Very friendly and knowledgeable. I'm always seen early - and the hours are great to be open before work. I came in with an established med regiment, but Dr. Putnam is very easy to talk to and knowledgable, without pushing any unnecessary treatment or changes. Also takes insurance, which is so hard to find in this city!

Dr. Putnam was personable and thorough. He made me feel extremely comfortable, and made sure I clearly understood his plan of care and recommendations. His specialty is psychopharmacology, but he provided me with a list of several therapists he recommends.
Dr. Putnam is by far the best psychiatrist I have ever been to. He was warm, knowledgeable, and caring. His staff made sure that my insurance was processed correctly, and they spent 30 minutes on the phone making sure it would work before they billed so I wouldn't have any problems. It was truly a level of customer service and care that I've never experienced before! I would highly recommend Dr. Putnam and his practice to anyone in the DMV area.
Going in for your first psychiatric evaluation can be a really anxiety inducing experience. Dr Putnam has a light-hearted and warm bedside manner. He is very knowledgeable, clear with his instructions, and is just goofy enough that any tension I felt going into the evaluation is washed away. It's not easy to discuss depression, anxiety, focus, but it was with Dr. Putnam. I'm sincerely looking forward to my follow up appointment with him.
I was in and out in 15 minutes! Got my follow up scheduled and my prescriptions sent for refill. And, he's the most engaging mental health professional I've ever interacted with.
I got the distinct impression that Dr. Putnam has no real interest in his patients aside from money. He made it clear that he only prescribes medication & doesn’t engage in therapy. I had a horrible reaction to medication he prescribed & he didn’t respond to my emails for help.
He is amazing !! Such good “bedside manner” and takes the time to listen and adjust. Very knowledgeable and eager to help. Staff is great and very welcoming. No wonder he is one of the top ranked Psychiatrist in DC Metro. Hard to say you look forward to the next visit, but for the first time, I feel like I have someone in my corner !
