Joy Speech Language Pathology

I provide bilingual (Spanish–English) speech and language services for children and adults in the Rochester, NY area in person, and throughout New York and Maryland virtually. My practice is rooted in personalized, functional care that focuses on real-life communication—at home, at school, at work, and in the community. I believe therapy should feel supportive, collaborative, and practical. Every client receives individualized services tailored to their current strengths, needs, and goals. Whether supporting language development, articulation, social communication, AAC use, cognition, or accent modification, my approach centers on building confidence and meaningful communication skills that carry over into everyday life. Services begin with a 60-minute virtual evaluation and consultation to review current needs and skill levels and to develop a clear, goal-oriented plan. Ongoing therapy sessions are 30 minutes and may be provided virtually or in the home, depending on client preference and availability. As a private-pay practice, I am able to offer highly personalized services without the limitations of insurance requirements. I am committed to providing culturally responsive, bilingual care that honors each client’s background and communication goals. I look forward to partnering with individuals and families on their journey toward stronger, more confident communication.

Sarah Shellard has been a tremendous blessing to our family. My son is nonverbal, has intellectual disabilities and CVI, so finding the right AAC support felt overwhelming and isolating. Before working with Sarah, I often felt lost and unsure what system would truly meet his needs. Sarah brought not only knowledge and skill, but also kindness, patience, and genuine care. She took the time to understand my son, evaluate his receptive and expressive language, trial AAC options, and build a system that fit his cognitive, physical, and visual needs. She also trained family, teachers, therapists, and aides, helping everyone support him more consistently. What meant most was how invested she was in his success. She researched CVI and AAC, thought creatively, and guided us through the insurance process. Because of Sarah, my son has made real progress, and we finally feel hopeful and supported.
