At some point, it's easy to feel as if we're driving on a roundabout and don't know which exit to take, or why. Therapy can be a place to get 'unstuck' through a safe, open collaboration. As a therapist, my aim is less to 'fix' someone or their problems and more to help them understand their goals and the obstacles to achieving a sense of accomplishment and joy in life. People aren't 'one size fits all' so I work using various approaches including motivational interviewing, psychoanalytic theory, harm reduction and self psychology.
Along with building an alliance, I want to better understand how current circumstances or older, ineffective coping strategies (or both) lead to things not working for us, and what can be done differently.
