Kate DeGraaf, MHCA
Kate DeGraaf is a Mental Health Counselor Associate working with Mindful Therapy Group. You can call 425-640-7009 or text 425-321-3920 to schedule through Mindful.
I specialize in treating trauma, depression, anxiety, working with family communication issues, intergenerational trauma and relationships. I am trained psychodynamically, but most often I start treatment using CBT and somatic approaches to help stabilize symptoms and build a client's ability to think about their issues symbolically. I am trained in EMDR and often utilize this to help reduce somatic symptoms before working with a patient to make sense of their traumatic event.
In relationship counseling my goal is to help couples understand their role in supporting their partner in their personal growth. I am an Imago trained couples counselor. We focus on using structured dialogues to help couples grow in communication skills and regain a sense of safety and connection in their relationship.
I have a passion for working with in-patient psychiatric clients. I have experience as both an emergency intake clinician and risk assessor, and running groups for people just leaving the hospital. I work with people with suicide risk, those who hear voices, see things or have delusions, as well as people with other serious illnesses like bipolar, thought disorders, personality disorders, and psychotic disorders. Whether you are leaving the hospital, or feel like your symptoms are worsening, we can work together to make a safety plan and get to the root of your issues. Oftentimes serious psychiatric issues are not just psychiatric, but have their basis in trauma. We can work alongside your psychiatric provider to alleviate symptoms and get your life on track in the short term, as well as a trauma informed long-term recovery plan so you can live your best life.
I have worked in assisted living and I have a deep love for elders. I work with dementia as well as chronic pain.
