Kevin Montiel, LCSW
My name is Kevin Montiel and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in New York City. I work with individuals across the lifespan from adolescents to the elderly with a specialization in LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly those who are also racial/ethnic minorities. I have experience working in various settings including community health centers, private practice, universities, and consulting groups. Areas I focus on include identity development, life transitions, spirituality, personal growth, and mood and anxiety.
My approach to therapy is rooted in culturally responsive, affirming, and client-centered interventions. Methods I utilize include mindfulness-based interventions, acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. I take a biopsychosocial-spiritual view to better understand client's self and their environment.
A major goal with clients is to promote a value-driven life. I aim to help clients make meaning in their lives and build resiliency to the rollercoaster that is the human experience. I do not look at people through disorders but instead focus on how your internal and external worlds exist and interact. You are more than a diagnosis, you are a whole person.
