Mack Hayden, AMFT

I’m willing to bet you’d rather be doing a lot of other things other than scrolling through ZocDoc profiles. Most people don’t wind up here if everything’s going great. And if you are the type of person who just does this for fun… well, that’s probably worth exploring in therapy too! Maybe you’re feeling like everything you used to believe doesn’t make sense anymore. Maybe you’re wondering how a relationship that used to fill you to the brim feels like it’s running on empty. Maybe you’re feeling your chest get tight and your breath get quicker and you’re not sure why. Maybe you wish the people you needed to be safest didn’t turn out feeling like a flashing neon “Danger!” sign. It may be any of those things, or it may be something different, but here’s what’s for sure. For whatever reason, you’re stuck, maybe even overwhelmed, and you want to believe there’s a way out of the dark and into the light. And I’m happy to tell you—as someone who’s gone through plenty of these caves and quicksand traps myself—there absolutely is. The idea of trying to sell myself to you—in a time when you’re probably having a hard time just getting out of bed—makes me want to stick forks in my eyes! If you want a therapist who’s not afraid to laugh or cry with you, who’s ready to talk about the stories and songs that have helped you make sense of yourself, or gags at the idea of using Therapy Speak in general, I may be your guy. But regardless of if you go with me or someone else, I’d just hope you can remember this: the hardest part is over. Today, instead of staying stuck, you did something different—and maybe even scary. And that’s the magic trick right there—all the other stuff is just icing on the cake.
