I’ve been seeing Melissa Kornitzer for three years. I developed panic disorder as a result of Covid and was having panic attacks frequently and without warning. I tried to overcome it on my own but it progressively got worse and more debilitating. She taught me DBT skills to reduce the panic I was experiencing and was able to help me be less afraid of when the panic attacks would occur. I used a combination of medication, talking, and DBT and within six months my panic attacks were rare and not the forefront of my life anymore. I still come to therapy because life can be stressful and overwhelming, but I can say my life going better and I’m feeling more hopeful about things now.

I have been working with Melissa for roughly 3 months regarding my issues with panic disorder and anger management and there has been tremendous progress during this period as Melissa has given me the tools to deal with my issues and the understanding of the underlying causes which are deep rooted and I have kept suppressed for many years. I have a ways to go and will continue working with her to try and resolve all.
I highly recommend Melissa as she not only has the skills but is compassionate and understanding.

I have seen many therapist over the years and Melissa is the ONLY one that has helped me. She introduced DBT to me and it completely changed my life! I am now high functioning and self-regulated. She is so down to earth and has the best humor. I finally feel heard and she really walked me through the darkest time of my life. She taught me strong coping skills, helped rebuild my relationships, and my self-esteem. I recommend her to everyone!

Coming to therapy with Melissa changed my life. I was really resistant to the idea of therapy initially. I thought only “crazy” people do it and I should be able to take care of myself but I was getting worse over time and eventually realized I needed more than just my friends talking to me. I see now that seeing a therapist and talking to friends is not the same. Friends can be supportive, but a therapist teaches you how to reframe your thinking and develop a toolbox for when I’m feeling out of control. I encourage my friends to see someone too now.

I came into therapy because I was sick of lying and hiding about my drinking. I felt like I was on a hamster wheel where I would feel depressed so I would drink, and because I drank I felt depressed. I was miserable and it did feel hopeless. I heard about DBT from rehab and figured I would try something different. Melissa taught me how to depend less on feeling good all the time, and that its ok to not fill the void with something that ultimately hurts me. It took a lot of work but I’m not obsessed with alcohol anymore, and I finally feel free.

Warm and professional! Great communication and work ethic. Follows up, stays engaged, and knows her field. She genuinely wants to help people. Wonderful therapy session and I will be continuing with her.

I’ve seen therapists since I was 15, I’m 49 now, and I can say she is one of the best I’ve worked with. I have a difficult combination of BPD and depression, and medication doesn’t fully address these issues. Melissa explained that with BPD medication can take the edge off, but it’s the work in DBT where I can actually get better. It took a year in therapy to really be able to change my behavior, but I no longer explode and freak out. DBT is the game changer, and I feel lucky that I discovered it and Melissa.
