“Dr. Shane” graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 1994 where he was a proud member of The Gorgas Odonatological Honorary Society, after receiving his BS in Biology from Cornell University. He completed his residency training in an Advanced Education in General Dentistry. Dr. Shane returned home to NY from Maryland in 1998 and has been in private practice on the Upper West Side, SoHo, and now in Park Slope, Brooklyn. He was also a distinguished faculty member at the NYU College of Dentistry from 2000-2015.
To Dr. Shane, dentistry is not just drilling and filling, but the perfect blend of art and science. Although he loves many facets of dentistry, he most enjoys getting to know his patients. To him, the heart of patient care is taking a personalized approach because each patient and their smile is special. Whether a patient’s concern is cosmetic, restorative, or even a dental emergency, he creates a genuine connection with his patients and provides them with the excellent, individualized care they need. By combining a patient’s dental needs and desires with our exacting nature, we can work together to create something of immeasurable value. At Methal Dental Arts, we believe patient education is the key to understanding, and can alleviate so much of the fear and anxiety that can surround the practice of dentistry.

I had a dentist in the neighborhood that I loved. My favorite dentist ever, but he stopped accepting my dentist. He mentioned Dr. Methal to me.
I booked my first appointment. I was ... leery. Cautious. Worried.
Three years later, not only do I now vastly prefer Dr. Methal, but I'm getting much better results from some ongoing, decades long issues that are now looking great.
Can't recommend him and his staff enough.

I called the office a day prior to double check my insurance coverage etc. just by the phone call with the front desk, I felt taken cared of and respected.

I am a new patient and this was my first appointment with Dr. Shane for a teeth cleaning. The office was easy to find and the reception area was well decorated and comfortable. Dr. Shane and his staff were all very welcoming and professional. Patient care is clearly a focus of their practice. Dr Shane (and his staff) is really awesome. I can’t recommend him highly enough. I’ve always been afraid of the dentist and hadn’t gone in years(!). I was really nervous going in but Dr Shane immediately made me feel at ease - he took his time to explain my condition, answered all my questions, and did so with some lighthearted humor. For my follow up he did a cleaning and did some filling, he was really careful to make sure that I didn’t feel any discomfort and kept checking in through the entire process.
His staff was friendly and the office was really clean with a calming environment. All the costs were laid out upfront and clearly with no surprises.
If you need a dentist go see Dr Shane! He’ll take great care of you. We all need a dentist we can trust.
