NAJ Psychiatry LLC
Practice Description – Methods & Philosophy
I am a double board-certified Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience providing psychiatric care across the full continuum, including acute psychiatric emergencies, inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, geriatric mental health, intellectual and developmental disability services, and healthcare leadership. I hold a Master of Science in Nursing and am currently completing my Doctorate, reflecting my ongoing commitment to clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning.
Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals and families navigating a wide range of mental health concerns—from situational anxiety and depression to severe and persistent psychiatric illness. My clinical experience includes extensive work with bipolar disorder (including Bipolar I and Bipolar II), schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma-related conditions, and mood instability across the lifespan.
I have extensive experience caring for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as geriatric patients with complex psychiatric and medical needs. These populations often require careful diagnostic clarity, patience, and highly individualized treatment planning. I am skilled in adapting communication, assessment, and treatment strategies to meet each person’s cognitive abilities, functional level, and support system, while maintaining dignity, safety, and quality of life.
I am particularly experienced in the long-term management of bipolar disorders and schizophrenia, including mood stabilization, relapse prevention, medication optimization, and monitoring for side effects and medical comorbidities. I frequently work with patients who have experienced multiple hospitalizations, medication trials, or partial treatment response, and I approach these cases with a steady, thoughtful, and evidence-based framework.
In addition, I work closely with college-aged patients and adults navigating academic pressure, career transitions, family and relationship stressors, identity development, and professional burnout. Many of the patients I work with are high-functioning individuals who appear “put together” on the outside but struggle internally with anxiety, rumination, intrusive thoughts, emotional dysregulation, or chronic stress. Others are managing chronic psychiatric illness while striving to maintain independence, relationships, and a meaningful quality of life.
My Approach to Psychiatric Care
My approach to psychiatric care: is collaborative, structured, and individualized. I believe effective mental health treatment requires a thoughtful balance of biological, psychological, and lifestyle factors, rather than relying on medication alone or oversimplified solutions. I take the time to understand each patient’s full history, current stressors, strengths, and goals, and I prioritize shared decision-making so patients feel informed, respected, and empowered in their care.
Medication Management Expertise: I have strong expertise in psychiatric medication management, including complex cases involving partial treatment response, medication sensitivity, polypharmacy, and long-term use of psychiatric medications. Many patients I see have been on medications for years and are seeking improved symptom control, fewer side effects, or a safer and more streamlined regimen.
I approach medication adjustments conservatively and thoughtfully, with a strong emphasis on safety, gradual change, and close monitoring. My goal is not simply to prescribe or discontinue medications, but to optimize treatment in a way that supports long-term stability, cognitive clarity, emotional regulation, and daily functioning.
Beyond Medication: While medication can be an important component of treatment, I do not view it as the sole solution. I consistently integrate practical, evidence-based lifestyle and behavioral strategies, including sleep regulation, nutrition, physical activity, stress management, mindfulness, and cognitive techniques. These interventions are tailored to each individual’s circumstances and readiness for change, with the goal of supporting long-term resilience and sustainable mental wellness.
What You Can Expect From Me: Patients can expect a structured, respectful, and collaborative experience. I value punctuality, clear communication, and follow-through. I strive to create a supportive, judgment-free environment where patients feel safe discussing difficult or sensitive topics.
My goal is not just symptom reduction, but meaningful improvement in daily functioning, emotional resilience, and quality of life. I understand that progress is not always linear, and I work closely with patients to adjust treatment plans as needed.
A Personal Note: I am a former Division I athlete and understand firsthand the pressures of high expectations, performance demands, and pushing through adversity. This experience shapes my clinical approach and informs my respect for resilience, discipline, and the importance of recovery and balance.
Why Patients Choose Me: Patients choose me for my depth of experience, thoughtful approach, and commitment to individualized care. With over 20 years in psychiatric practice, I bring clinical confidence to complex cases while maintaining a calm, supportive, and respectful presence. I am known for taking the time to listen, explaining treatment options clearly, and approaching medication management carefully—especially for patients with long treatment histories, medication sensitivities, or mood and psychotic disorders. Many patients value my structured yet compassionate style, my focus on long-term stability rather than quick fixes, and my ability to work collaboratively toward meaningful, sustainable improvement in daily functioning and quality of life.
Who I May Be a Good Fit For: I may be a good fit if you are:

Someone managing bipolar disorder (including Bipolar I or II), schizophrenia, or other complex mood or psychotic conditions
An individual with a long or complicated medication history who wants careful optimization rather than rushed changes

Someone navigating life transitions, academic or career stress, or chronic mental health concerns

Someone who values clear communication, structure, follow-through, and collaborative decision-making
