I believe that life-long
recovery from the shackles of
an eating disorder is possible for everyone.
I am living proof.
Hi! I’m Nancy!
Bulimia hijacked my life in college. Trapped and out of control, I was sitting in the back seat of life with my disorder at the wheel. Eating disorders weren’t a “thing” back then. I thought I was the only one who did “it”. Wrapped in self-hatred and disgust, I didn’t know that treatment existed. No one knew. I’d become a magician. Everything was hidden from the audience. But beneath my bulimia was depression, despair and desperation. A way out seemed impossible.
I once asked a psychiatrist if anyone really recovers for life. His response….
“Everyone with an eating disorder can recover… as long as they never give up.”
Dr. David McArthy; Brea Neuropsychiatric Center
I clung to his words for years. He was right. Therapy saved my life. There is indeed a way out that can last a lifetime.
I have been in your shoes and traveled that harrowing path. Endless failed diets “prove” you’re not good enough, pretty enough, thin enough, smart enough…. Any and all of it. You may have tried therapy – perhaps more than once - but “it didn’t work”. Shame and blame shadow you. Hope seems a mirage.
Been there, done that.
The truth is that diets don’t work. You’ve tried them all, like everyone else… Keto, South Beach, Jenny Craig, Zone, Nutrisystem …or starving, binging and purging, restricting. “I’ll start over on Monday”… an all-too-familiar chant. This is the crux of yo-yo
It is not your fault!!!
Why don’t diets work? Because the cause of the disorder remains unresolved. After all, what happens when you cut off a weed and leave its roots? It is a matter of time. It will grow back.
“Insanity is doing the same thing
over and over
expecting different results.”
(Albert Einstein)
The processes of treatment and recovery are notoriously difficult. There are many talented therapists, but finding one who effectively treats eating disorders is elusive at best. Given my personal and professional history, I am uniquely equipped to guide you out of the abyss.
My treatment strategy is wholistic and based on a thorough exploration of how and why this disorder took control. Conducting a “life-line” explores the complex interplay of your family relationships and heritage, peer and school experiences, neurology, biology and genetics. They all play their part. They must all be addressed. Treatment is then meticulously tailored to you and your specific situation. Snowflakes are like people … each one is unique. An effective treatment plan must reflect that.
This is not cookie cutter therapy.
Are you interested in developing tools to live a healthier, more meaningful life? In therapy you can:
1. Learn how to address and effectively resolve conflicts
2. Permanently end your struggle with weight and diets
3. Develop and practice superior communication strategies and skills
4. Find your voice, express yourself and learn to say ‘no’
5. Deeply understand, accept and love yourself
6. Begin to feel comfortable in your own skin
So that you can:
1. Heal and improve relationships with those you love (or at least want to love/like/live with/ tolerate or understand)
2. Create strategies to care for yourself in times of turbulence.
3. Muzzle you inner, sharp tongued self-critic

You can use all of this growth and these strategies to create a life on your terms.
Freedom from this debilitating
disorder is waiting.
You deserve it.
Now.
If not now, then when?
Please go to the tab “I’m interested”. You will find an appointment calendar if you would like to meet with me..
Whether you reach out to me or not, just remember ... Never give up!
All The Best,
Nancy
(Treatment description - ZocDoc)
I utilize a wholistic approach to therapy and address all of your life experiences (past and present) that led to your disorder. Treatment is based on a thorough exploration of how and why this tenacious disorder hijacked your life. This includes exploring family relationships and heritage, peer and school experiences, neurology, biology and genetics. When woven together, a comprehensive understanding of the disorder emerges. This “life-line” paves the path to an enduring recovery. Your treatment is meticulously tailored specifically for you.
Following the assessment, my clients set goals for therapy. Some examples include resolving depression and shattered self-esteem, overcoming the disorder, healing past traumas and losses, improving/healing personal and family relationships, strengthening communication skills and ‘finding their voice’. After treatment, the trajectory of your future will change. This time you will be at the helm and in full control of your life.
It is really quite simple. Case in point.
“Suzie”, a bright-eyed red head girl, was abused and bullied growing up. She came to hate everything about herself. Binging became her ‘best friend’ and hiding place - always available and there, without judgement. It gave her great comfort. Over the years Suzie gained weight (her nemesis). Shame and depression consumed her. ”If only I was thinner. Then I’d be happier”. Enter anorexia. Losing weight would be an “answer” to her prayers. But what began as the “solution” became yet another crippling condition.
Suzie entered treatment and came to deeply understand and accept herself. She found her voice, healed broken family relationships, grew a support system, resolved her traumas and became comfortable in her own skin. Food as a friend or hiding place? She put her eating disorder in her rear-view mirror and started writing her life’s next chapter.
This is not cookie cutter therapy.
I am a clinical social worker and special educator. While in the closing stages of treatment for bulimia, I earned a Masters of Special Education at Buffalo State University. Therapy transformed my life and inspired me to change course. I completed a Masters of Social Work at the University of Buffalo to help others do the same.
I have been a (systems) therapist for 35 years and on both sides of the 'therapeutic table'. My clients have included individuals, families, adolescent girls and couples with a wide array of problems and struggles. Although the bulk of my work has been in private practice, I have also had experience in program design, development and implementation. The SEED Program (Supportive Educational Eating Disorder Program) was a day treatment program focused on teaching recovery strategies for clients with eating disorders in addition to improving their insight and self-acceptance.
Additionally, I designed and implemented an intervention for at risk elementary students while teaching and supervising 3 MSW interns. The program identified and addressed each family’s unique situation to support them in better helping their children in school. I have provided training for therapists in treating eating disorders, conducted a seminar at the University of Buffalo on treating adolescent girls, worked in a community clinic offering individual, marital and family therapy, and interned at an agency providing multilevel assistance to the elderly.
I have an unwavering belief in the human spirit’s ability to heal and grow if provided with a path and a guide. It is a privilege to facilitate people’s healing as they learn new skills, find their voice and take control of their lives. They inspire me every day. I know the way and it would be an honor walk that path with you.
