Pondworks Psychiatry & Psychotherapy

Before you book, it helps to know what kind of practice you are walking into. Who We Are: Pondworks practices psychodynamically-informed mental health care. We treat the person, not just a symptom list, taking the time to understand how your history, your relationships, and what you carry inside shape what brings you in. We build longitudinal treatment relationships, usually measured in many months and frequently in years, rarely less than three to six months. Our aim is to embed as your provider through the ups and downs of your life, adjusting course as you change and explore new choices. We are in it for the long haul for durable improvement. Our team invests more than 500 hours a year in dedicated supervision and case discussion, led by supervising psychiatrist Dr. Bernard Kim, MD, who is Dartmouth-trained, a Boston Psychoanalytic fellow, and has more than twenty years in practice. What Your First Visit Is: Your first appointment is a consultation, not a guaranteed prescription. Its purpose is a careful diagnostic impression and a thoughtful recommendation for treatment. In simpler situations, that work is finished in the first visit. In moderate or complex situations, which are common and nothing to be alarmed by, one visit is often not enough. When that is the case, your provider will tell you partway through the appointment rather than at the end, so expectations can be discussed openly. Who We Are Not: If you are hoping to leave your first appointment with a prescription in hand, we ask you to hold that expectation loosely. We reject the 15-minute med check and the absentee supervision model that have become common in psychiatry. Pondworks is not a refill counter. If what you are looking for is a one-time, fast transaction, we are likely not the right fit, and we would rather tell you that now than disappoint you later. Our providers: Care at Pondworks is delivered by Dr. Kim and by our psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants. These Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) do not work alone or under loose oversight. They practice inside the same intensive supervision structure that defines us, with Dr. Kim engaged in their cases on an ongoing basis.

Nurse Han was very friendly and professional, listened intently, and asked follow-up questions to clarify information and continue the conversation. She validated my feelings and provided multiple perspectives for solutions. She also provided very thorough medication counseling.
