>>> In Pursuit of EXCELLENCE <<<
Welcome to the world of External Counterpulsation (EECP)!
● FDA approved, non-invasive 'assisted' circulation
● cuffs strategically placed as shown
● inflation & deflation timed exactly opposite your heartbeat
#1 CARDIOVASCULAR EXCELLENCE
Cuff inflation squeezes the blood in the legs back towards the heart. This strengthens the heart muscle and produces an increase in the volume of blood circulated by the heart, improving 'cardiac output' by a full 75% and thus impacting ALL the body’s tissues and vital organs. Cuff inflation also increases the blood flow to the heart's own coronary arteries, which provides much needed oxygen and nourishment to the heart muscle. As an example, critical Left Main Coronary Artery flow increases by 42% during External Counterpulsation.
Cuff deflation creates a void in the blood vessels of the legs. This decreases the effort exerted by the heart when it contracts and once again improves cardiac output.
These combined effects from EECP optimize the overall functioning of the heart. Over several weeks, this not only opens up existing coronary arteries but also helps establish new natural bypass arteries (collaterals) where blockages previously existed. Central to this phenomenon is a tripling of localized Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), yielding a significant 31%, 34%, and 31% increase in capillary density in the 3 layers of the heart wall, respectively.
#2 ATHLETIC EXCELLENCE
The benefits of External Counterpulsation extend well beyond the heart. Retrograde arterial flow (also known as 'shear stress') more than doubles the release of Nitric Oxide and vascular growth factors. This improves peripheral endothelial function, reduces arterial stiffness, decreases systemic vascular resistance & unhealthy blood pressures by 20 - 30%, allows healthy vasodilation (up to 210%), creates new blood vessels, and stimulates blood vessel progenitor ('stem') cells. Thus, EECP is 'passive exercise' --- same effects as exercise training but without the person moving a muscle.
In those with persistent chest discomfort, 81% demonstrated improved exercise tolerance and 78% demonstrated improved stress testing after External Counterpulsation. In healthy volunteers, low exercise volunteers, and emphysema patients, significant improvements were seen in exercise endurance factors such as oxygen uptake and metabolic equivalents after only 15 EECP sessions. In team sports participants, there was a major decrease in damaging cortisol release and a major increase in healing testosterone release (enhanced exercise recovery) after a single post-training EECP session of only 20 minutes.
Of note, many elite athletes such as Shaquille O’Neal, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady have relied on External Counterpulsation to bolster their own endurance.
#3 ENERGY EXCELLENCE
Acute COVID vs 'Long' COVID vs Vaccine Injury vs Lyme Disease vs Dormant Viruses vs Chronic Fatigue Syndrome vs Environmental Toxicities vs Nutrient Deficiencies vs
Hypothyroidism vs Adrenal Fatigue vs Hormones vs Simple Aging??? The proven ability of External Counterpulsation to improve blood flow and endothelial function, along with its
proven ability to reduce inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-alpha) should contribute greatly to vitality & longevity in ALL these overlapping conditions.
An estimated 50% of COVID-19 patients experience lingering symptoms six months after the acute phase of COVID-19 infection. A 2022 study of Long COVID patients found
significant improvements in health status, functional capacity, fatigue levels, shortness of breath, and walking capacity after External Counterpulsation. A 2023 study demonstrated improved symptoms of chest discomfort in 60% and of fatigue in 50% after only 15 sessions of EECP.
Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is associated with COVID-free Vaccine Injury. External Counterpulsation has been shown to improve 'brain fog', fatigue, walking distance, and activity index in these patients after only 15 sessions.
A 2024 study of those with chronic insomnia found significant improvements in total sleep time, sleep efficiency, anxiety, and depression after EECP and 3 months later despite
sessions shortened to 45 minutes.
#4 DETOXIFICATION EXCELLENCE
External Counterpulsation improves circulation through the:
● lungs
● liver
● bile ducts
● kidneys
● colon
● small intestine
● lymph nodes
● spleen
● sweat glands
● hair follicles
● skin
● subcutaneous fat
This universal augmentation of flow and function serves to optimize ALL detoxification and elimination pathways.
#5 STRUCTURAL EXCELLENCE
Approximately 10% of the cardiac output goes directly to the skeleton. Healthy bones, not only cortical cells (osteoblasts, osteocytes, osteoclasts) but also marrow cells (hematopoietic lineage cells, stromal cells, adipocytes) and endothelial cells, normally require this substantial blood flow to supply the requisite oxygen, nutrients, and regulatory
factors and to remove metabolic waste products such as carbon dioxide and acid. When bone is challenged, the rich vascular supply of bone enables healthy cellular density, rapid growth, remodeling (including mechanical responsiveness), and repair that is not possible in
cartilage, which is essentially avascular. The impact of bone blood flow on fracture healing, distraction osteogenesis, disuse osteopenia, and bone grafting is profound.
The quality of vascular supply to bone declines with age and may be compromised in common pathological settings, including diabetes, anemia, chronic airway diseases,
immobility, and tumors. Reductions in vascular supply are strongly associated with Osteoporosis but are reversible with External Counterpulsation.
#6 SEXUAL EXCELLENCE
Early studies of heart patients showed that 33% of those treated with External Counterpulsation also reported improved erectile activity. Later studies showed that flow
volume in the internal iliac artery increased by 140% during EECP. Flow in a major branch, the penile artery, increased by 88%. Penile rigidity increased by 53%.
Of note, in the vast majority of those treated with EECP, over 50% of their previously failed attempts at intercourse had become successful.
#7 COGNITIVE EXCELLENCE
The brain accounts for 2% of body mass but receives 20% of the blood flow from the heart. An important risk factor for cognitive impairment and dementia is poor vascular health, with cerebral blood flow and endothelial function playing a very significant role. Studies have demonstrated an impressive 26% increase in Internal Carotid Artery flow during External Counterpulsation. Whole brain blood flow increased up to 15.8% following EECP treatment, with the hippocampus and precuneus regions showing the highest increases immediately and 6 months later. These 2 regions are of particular interest because of their involvement in cognition and cognitive decline.
Vascular risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, atherosclerosis, and early Alzheimer’s disease lead to reduced cerebral blood flow, and reduced cerebral blood flow is strongly associated with the development of dementia and progressive Alzheimer's Disease. In fact,
decreased cerebral blood flow is known to be the earliest sign of potential cognitive impairment. Alternatively, treatments improving cerebral blood flow, such as External
Counterpulsation, improve cognitive function and performance by increasing neuroprotective mechanisms (angiogenesis, neurogenesis, synaptogenesis, and
neurotransmitter synthesis) and decreasing oxidative stress in brain areas involved in cognition and mobility.
In his randomized, single-blind, sham-controlled study just last year, Patrick M. Moriarty, MD, professor of medicine and director of clinical pharmacology at the University of Kansas
Medical Center, saw significant and lasting improvements in validated testing tools such as the Vascular Dementia Assessment Scale, the Alzheimer’s Disease Global Impression of Change Scale, and the Alzheimer’s Disease Activities of Daily Living Scale after EECP. Though drug-based therapies for these conditions may, at best, slow down the rate of decline, Dr. Moriarty saw literally EVERY patient with diabetes boost their cognitive skills when treated with non-invasive E x t e r n a l C o u n t e r p u l s a t i o n .
