Ryan Shannon, LMHCA, MS, MA

I offer an insight- and action-oriented approach to therapy for people who want to better understand themselves while also making meaningful changes in their everyday lives. I believe that when we become more aware of the experiences, beliefs, and conditioned patterns influencing our behavior, we gain greater freedom to respond differently. Therapy with me is therefore not only about understanding why you feel or behave a certain way, but also about developing practical ways to move forward. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and goal-oriented. I integrate evidence-based and research-informed methods including EMDR, CBT, CPT-informed therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, Adlerian therapy, mindfulness, guided imagery, DBT skills, and other behavioral strategies. Depending on your needs, sessions may involve processing difficult experiences, examining unhelpful patterns, challenging beliefs, developing coping skills, improving emotional regulation, or identifying concrete changes you can begin making between sessions. I frequently work with anxiety, trauma and PTSD, depression, chronic stress, perfectionism, burnout, grief, relationship concerns, life transitions, self-confidence, and difficulties related to attachment or longstanding behavioral patterns. I also enjoy working with high achievers, professionals, people in demanding careers, and clients who have previously attended therapy but still feel stuck. I tend to be an active therapist rather than someone who simply listens and reflects. At times, I may suggest behavioral challenges or “missions” between sessions to help you experiment with new ways of thinking, responding, and relating to others. My goal is to create a relationship where you feel supported and understood while also being encouraged to grow. I provide telehealth therapy to clients throughout Washington State.
