Sadaf Ijaz, MD

I'm a board-certified psychiatrist providing telehealth care to adults across Virginia and Pennsylvania, with a particular focus on women's mental health — PMDD, perinatal and postpartum mood disorders, and the anxiety, insomnia, and brain fog that can arrive with perimenopause and menopause. I also treat the full range of adult conditions, including depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, ADHD, and chronic insomnia. My approach is collaborative. Every recommendation comes with the reasoning behind it: why this medication over the alternatives, what the evidence says, and what our plan is if it doesn't work. If therapy would serve you better than medication — or alongside it — I'll say so plainly. Appointments are long enough for real conversation, and I track progress with validated measures so we both know what's working. I care about getting the diagnosis right before deciding what to do about it. Poor concentration, for example, isn't always ADHD — it can be depression, anxiety, sleep loss, thyroid problems, or perimenopause. Treating the wrong condition efficiently helps no one. I hold a Master of Public Health alongside my MD, which shapes how I practice: I ask about your work, sleep, family, and physical health, because symptoms don't arise in a vacuum and treatment has to fit your actual life. I offer appointments in English, Urdu, Punjabi, and Hindi. Mental health lives in language, and describing your inner life in your first language — to a clinician who understands the cultural world behind the words — changes what can be said. Evening and weekend appointments are available for people whose weekdays have no give. If you've been waiting until things feel 'bad enough,' I'd gently offer this: that isn't the standard. If something is stealing your sleep, your patience, or your sense of who you are, that's enough. I'd be glad to meet you.
