Uptown Psych was established in 2011 with a commitment to bring the best possible, evidence-based mental health services to the Chicago metropolitan area and Evanston. The practice’s leading team of licensed psychiatrists and psychologists represent extensive and diverse expertise to facilitate superior and highly personalized treatment plans for a full scope of mental health issues for children, adolescents, and adults. Just about any mental health condition can be addressed at Uptown Psych, including attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, addiction, and all anxiety spectrum disorders.
At Uptown Psych, our specialists understand that episodes of these and other mental health issues require prompt attention. With that in mind, the entire team is dedicated to making treatment accessible as soon as possible. Often appointments can be scheduled for the same week. This review is specifically for the Uptown Psych office in general. If you're looking for a doctor, please double check that the address listed is NOT Uptown Psych.
After my pharmacy tried to contact the practice several times to refill a prescription, I finally called. While they confirmed that they had received at least one message from the pharmacy, I was told that they'd refill the prescription "when [they] get to it." I asked if it could be filled that day (the pharmacy was about to be closed for New Years and I was officially out of my prescription) and the response was a hard "maybe, we'll see if we get to it." I was upset, and the staff member was rude about it.
Again, the doctors themselves might be fine. Dr. Nguyen was totally fine. But I'd rather look for a new provider than ever deal with that office again.

This was my first time ever with a psychiatrist as an adult and I was hesitant when booking the appointment. Dr. Nguyen is the most thorough, empathetic, and knowledgeable psychiatrist I've ever been to. She listens to the details of your symptoms and history to really try to find the best option for you. I never doubted for a second that I could trust her to help me make good decisions about medication, instead of just prescribing whatever pill the pharma companies want her to.

Ok visit - Dr. Nguyen (pronounced “win”) was knowledgeable, direct and was able to help with my reason for the visit. I have yet to find a psychiatrist in America that is interested in hearing more about what is going on with my life before prescribing medication.
It feels like a severe disconnect that the Doctor prescribing your mood/behavior meds is different than the therapist who listens to why you are feeling a certain way or can iron out unresolved issues you have. My Canadian must really be showing ....

Dr. Mai was really sweet. She was on-time to our video visit and professional. I liked that this visit was able to be a video visit and I didn't have to go into the office during the pandemic. There is a lot of paperwork to fill out that comes from the office but that's to be expected.
I liked her and do recommend her to others.

Her receptionist was very helpful and so was Dr. Nguyen! I had been looking for a psychiatrist that I felt cared and was emphatic and she definitely made sure to make sure I was understood and given some guidance and help. I would recommend her and her office.

I have been seeing Dennis for a few weeks now, and each time we've met he offers very meaningful insights from the things I talk about that I think about for days afterward. He approaches therapy from a problem solving/ goal oriented standpoint which is refreshing for me. He really knows his stuff and I look forward to our sessions.

Honestly, I have. And a really difficult
Time With this provider and staff.
I have had my appt time changed without notification or confirmation from my end AND I got charged a no-show even though I spoke to the staff saying I wouldn’t be able to make the appt time they switched me to. I also have had to re-fill out my intake Paperwork each time I have seen this practitioner which is ridiculous. Also, they never kept my card on file (although I requested them to) and wouldn’t allow me access to my appointment until I provided it…a 3rd time.
Furthermore, I expressed that I was really truly struggling with my ADD/depression and instead of the provider (who is a nurse btw, not a psychiatrist) refused to refill them until I took a 7-hr psych eval not covered by insurance even though I’ve been on this medication for years. I was pushed off the appt tho she was late to it. I felt unheard, rejected, &objectified like I was a seeker. let me just add that I am a physician myself.Disappointed

Really great experience. Ms. Kos took in all my information, asked the right questions, listed to what was going on and then she discussed my options and her opinions and perspective on the situation which were intelligent and based on clinical experience.
There was no pressure to go one way or the other, she just laid the facts out and let me decided on which path I thought was best for me.

I like that their practice has a patient portal with all of their forms and you can message them on there as well. Everyone seems really nice on the phone and Dr. Kos is so kind! Many of my past experiences with psychiatrists have felt really impersonal but it seems like she's going out of her way to not make it feel that way. She also gave me many resources.
