Uptown Psych was established in 2011 with a commitment to bring the best possible, evidence-based mental health services to the Chicago metropolitan area and Evanston. The practice’s leading team of licensed psychiatrists and psychologists represent extensive and diverse expertise to facilitate superior and highly personalized treatment plans for a full scope of mental health issues for children, adolescents, and adults. Just about any mental health condition can be addressed at Uptown Psych, including attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, addiction, and all anxiety spectrum disorders.
At Uptown Psych, our specialists understand that episodes of these and other mental health issues require prompt attention. With that in mind, the entire team is dedicated to making treatment accessible as soon as possible. Often appointments can be scheduled for the same week. This review is specifically for the Uptown Psych office in general. If you're looking for a doctor, please double check that the address listed is NOT Uptown Psych.
After my pharmacy tried to contact the practice several times to refill a prescription, I finally called. While they confirmed that they had received at least one message from the pharmacy, I was told that they'd refill the prescription "when [they] get to it." I asked if it could be filled that day (the pharmacy was about to be closed for New Years and I was officially out of my prescription) and the response was a hard "maybe, we'll see if we get to it." I was upset, and the staff member was rude about it.
Again, the doctors themselves might be fine. Dr. Nguyen was totally fine. But I'd rather look for a new provider than ever deal with that office again.

Dr. Nguyen is the most thorough, empathetic, and knowledgeable psychiatrist I've ever been to. She listens to the details of your symptoms and history to really try to find the best option for you. I never doubted for a second that I could trust her to help me make good decisions about medication, instead of just prescribing whatever pill the pharma companies want her to.

Dr. Mai was really sweet. She was on-time to our video visit and professional. I liked that this visit was able to be a video visit and I didn't have to go into the office during the pandemic. There is a lot of paperwork to fill out that comes from the office but that's to be expected.

Ok visit - Dr. Nguyen (pronounced “win”) was knowledgeable, direct and was able to help with my reason for the visit. I have yet to find a psychiatrist in America that is interested in hearing more about what is going on with my life before prescribing medication.
It feels like a severe disconnect that the Doctor prescribing your mood/behavior meds is different than the therapist who listens to why you are feeling a certain way or can iron out unresolved issues you have. My Canadian must really be showing ....
