I’ve always done virtual sessions with Derek, and they’ve always been great. Coming up on a year with sessions every two or three weeks. For the first time in 20+ of struggling with depression, addiction, and undiagnosed behavior disorders I feel like I am on top of things and am starting take more and more control of my life. Derek balances a personal, thoughtful approach with a profound understanding of the role and impact of the medications he prescribes (or doesn’t). I think the biggest way Derek has helped me to grow is how he gently pushes back whenever I begin to talk in absolutes- “I’m always…” or “My wife never…”, or even “I can’t…”. He highlights where the limits are and helps me to take notice of the times when things I feel like are absolute, are in fact not.

Derek's focus is always what is happening with the patient - are they eating, sleeping? Ears wide open, he listens to the challenges the patient is facing, and talk through a plan to get through those that are comfortable for the patient. Providing back and forth feedback to support the patient in being ready for their daily lives. I have been seeing Derek since my husband passed away 6 years ago. My father just passed away. His empathy and encouragement helps me navigate what I am going through, feelings, and action plans for reaching an outcome that is important to me.
