Visionary Eye Doctors, founded by J. Alberto Martinez, MD, has been at the Forefront of eye health care for more than 25 years. We have pioneered several leading-edge procedures in the Washington, DC metro area - including bladeless laser cataract surgery – that have helped advance the standard of care in our region. Additionally, Dr. Martinez participated in the initial studies that led to the FDA approval of LASIK.

The doctor is solid and confident. Makes you feel comfortable but the operations of this office is a complete mess. No one knew were my doc was, waited an hour before anyone came into the room. And there just isn't a lot of communication between the office staff. Really wish this doc was at another practice. They always seem to mess up my appointment time even though it was book thru ZD.

Dr. Allen was great, quickly diagnosed my issue. I was able to get an appointment the day of but the office staff had issues with my appointment so it wasn't confirmed. That was the only frustrating part of the experience but the doctor was absolutely a pleasure. Very nice and instilled confidence my diagnosis and treatment.

Good, professional staff who took care of things quickly, even first thing in the morning. They answered any questions I had along the way, speaking to me as though I were an intelligent layman--often a difficult talent for medical people.
They had a step-by-step approach, and they explained what they were doing and why as they went along.
I was given a real diagnosis (and course of treatment) for my vision difficulties, with a statement of things to look for in the future.
The team also clearly got along with one another very well, and I'm sure this was part of how they do so well with their patients.

Dr. Allen was very pleasant, my consultation took just 5 minutes but the wait was over 2 hours, I am not exaggerating.
My question, what's the point of making an appointment if they can't honor it.

This was my first visit to an eye doctor and I have to say it was quite exceptional. Despite the office being incredibly busy, everyone worked together like a well-oiled machine to ensure you were never waiting longer than 5 minutes for your next step. Everyone was incredibly friendly and took the time to explain every step of my appointment to me since it was my first time at an ophthalmologist's office. And while I spent the least amount of time with Dr Fritz himself, he was still very friendly and kind and took the time to ensure I understood the diagnosis and treatment. Definitely recommend!!

I think Dr Fritz is a pretty good doctor, maybe even really good but I was turned off because he did not have enough patience for answering all my questions. I asked questions more than the usual patient but it was for a good reason, to remember what he said or to understand what exactly my issue was since I was not recording. I think that's a big turn off for a doctor, they should be patient and not make you feel rushed if you have questions at the end of session. They dialated my eyes so I could not see and that's why I had questions for the diagnosis slip after the session as well for the supplement I needed to get and the prescription I needed. Again I am thankful that he diagnosed my eye and gave me a treatment plan but that's the only negative I have.

I feel somewhat bad for attributing this rating to Dr. Allen, since he was perfectly fine, as was Dr. Hosseini, who was very nice and quite knowledgeable. Instead, this rating has more to do with their office staff, with whom both doctors also seemed exasperated.
First and foremost for people on this site, they do not handle Zocdoc users well. I filled out all my records on Zocdoc ahead of time to speed up the process, but no one ever read them (which was additionally problematic because the doctors did not know I wore contacts). When I tried to explain this to the front desk, the woman had never heard of Zocdoc and did not even know that you could schedule appointments with their office online.
After a few quick tests with one of the assistants, I waited over an hour before seeing Dr. Allen (it was very evident that the office had overbooked for this morning, as there were more people waiting than seats available). When Dr. Allen finally saw me, he had to immediately send me back because no one had given me eye drops, even though they told Dr. Allen to wait to see me, so my eyes could dilate. They must have then realized they forgot to do this for multiple people, because nurses began administering eye drops to people in the waiting room.
My appointment was on a Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. and I did not leave the office until 11:24 a.m. When I complained to the front desk about my simple annual check up lasting three and a half hours, they were not at all apologetic, which was both very inconsiderate and also alarming that they did not consider three and a half hours to be an unusual wait.
I would have to caution anyone considering going to this office to reconsider. This was easily the worst experience I have had in a medical office. To be honest, I've been to the DMV on many a lunch break, been to the post office on tax day, and traveled both United and Delta over the holidays, and never run into more incompetence and indifference.

He is such a great doctor and person.
He actually put me on the road to better health a few years ago. He did blood work and asked me to follow up with a specialist. As a result not only are my eyes better but my overall health is better. I never realized how much about your physical health is manifested in your eyes. Dr Rivera & Dr Hosseini are jewels! Very precious gemstones! And I have a greater awareness of my physical health because of these two eye doctors! Both are always so positive and a joy to be around!! The office as a whole is the best!

It was just a vision exam to get a new prescription for glasses. He was so incredibly thorough and thoughtful. It really seemed like he cared about my eye health and vision. He explained a lot to me, and taught me simple things to do to take care of my eyes. Even the high tech check in process was effortless and the staff was friendly! I would highly recommend!

Dr. Hosseini and his team were fantastic! I was seen within 15 minutes of arriving by both the front desk (who verified my insurance) and by the techs (who conducted the majority of the eye assessments/exams).
Dr. Hosseini took the time to explain the results/outcomes of the different tests they had run, and to chat with me about risk factors for genetic conditions like macular degeneration that run in my family.
He was friendly, polite, and efficient--his office even waived the fee that my insurance wouldn't have covered for same-day exam and prescription!
I would certainly recommend Dr. Hossein and his team to anyone in need of an eye exam or prescription for glasses/contacts!

Dr. Hosseini was very professional and helpful but the wait time was absurd. I have been to this practice twice now and one visit took 1.5 hours and the other took 2.5 hours. I also didn’t like that it felt like a certain brand of daily contacts was being pushed on me despite me saying I didn’t dailies, but it’s still my choice so it doesn’t matter too much.

I love this doctor and his staff! I have been seeing Dr. Hosseini since 2014. He is always very kind and professional, a pleasure to talk to and incredibly thorough - he makes sure to explain everything and answer questions. He also has me come in for follow up appointments to make sure everything is ok after the initial appointment. Dr. Hosseini is very helpful and really cares about the health of my eyes. You can tell he is a very skilled optometrist and enjoys what he does. Staff is kind, helpful and checking in is always super easy!

Dr Hosseini was very good, and kind and answered all my questions. I had to wait nearly an hour and a half for about 7 minutes of face time (I had a simple problem so I'm sure he would've spent more time if I needed it).
They had an electronic check in which I thought was nice/easy. No magazines in the waiting room! Not a big deal but weird!

I wish I could rate Dr. Hosseini separate from the clinic itself. Dr Hosseini was great, very pleasant and professional. However, his staff, wait time and overall office logistics could use some work. Let me also clarify that this review is for a doctor's eye exam, contact fitting and contact purchase.
Step 1: You arrive, sign in through a machine and wait to be called. All is good.
Step 2: You are sent to a second waiting area...to then wait for the doctor in case waiting station #1 wasn't enough.
Step 3: Doctor examines you (I only have praise and kudos for this part of the visit).
Step 4: You're sent back to the front desk to pay for your doctor's visit.
Step 5: You're sent back to a third waiting area to purchase contact lenses. This is the longest wait of them all by the way - which boggles my mind. They have so many people working there and only a few doctors. Admin tasks should move more swiftly/efficiently than the doctor's exam - just saying.
Step 6: You're finally seen by one of the assistants to purchase contact lenses. And to your surprise, you have to pay for extra shipping for these lenses because unbeknownst to you, the doctor prescribed you lenses that they don't carry in the office....(at this point, i'm thinking "great, now i'm waiting another few days for my contacts and getting contacts on the spot was my reason for coming here.")
Step 7: Contacts finally arrive to your house...with the wrong prescription. The assistant put in the wrong prescription for my right eye. Now, I'm not sure what to do.
Needless to say, I'm never coming back here again.

I was charged for procedures that were not authorized or informed about. I went in for an annual exam and contact fitter, they charged for medical appointment & ex-ray in addition to the annual exam. They also billed my medical insurance in addition to VSP. I'm working with my insurance company to make sure they know of the fraud. The office has failed to call me back with and update on this situation.
