Walk of Life Counseling, LLC

Practice description Walk of Life Counseling is a private outpatient practice in Green Lake, Wisconsin, offering in-person and telehealth sessions to adults facing a wide range of concerns. This includes common, everyday struggles such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders, stress, and difficult life transitions, as well as more specific challenges like past trauma, substance use, and legal or justice system involvement. Whatever brings you in, the goal is the same: understand the full picture and build a plan that fits. This practice is in-network with most major insurance carriers in Wisconsin, with ongoing efforts to expand paneling further to meet client demand. A sliding fee scale is also available for clients who might otherwise face financial barriers to care. My approach Therapy is built around the person, not a fixed protocol. Many clients benefit from straightforward talk therapy: practical coping strategies, a better understanding of patterns and relationships, and steady progress toward feeling more like themselves. For clients working through trauma-related concerns, treatment may also draw on more specialized approaches such as EMDR, Brainspotting, Cognitive Processing Therapy, or clinical hypnosis. The approach is matched to the person, not the other way around. One idea that comes up across many kinds of struggles, not only trauma, is avoidance. Whether it's putting off a hard conversation, avoiding a place or situation, or steering clear of a painful thought, avoidance often feels protective in the moment. Still, it tends to reinforce the very distress it's meant to relieve. Part of the work, when relevant, involves noticing these patterns and finding ways to re-engage at a pace that feels manageable, gradually. Philosophy of care Care here is direct and grounded rather than vague or overly clinical. Decades of experience across military service, corrections, and clinical practice inform an approach that values honesty over false reassurance, while staying patient and attentive to what each person is carrying. Sessions move at the pace that makes sense for the individual, with coping and stability addressed before any deeper or more difficult work begins. What to expect in the first session The first session focuses on understanding your history, current concerns, and what has or hasn't worked before. From there, a plan takes shape together, one that fits your goals rather than a one-size-fits-all model. Regular check-ins along the way keep the plan responsive to how things are actually going. Group therapy offerings In addition to individual therapy, Walk of Life Counseling offers two closed therapy groups for those interested in a community-based format alongside or instead of individual sessions: 'Through the Fray' is a 12-session, in-person group for 6 to 8 participants using body-based, neurosomatic methods. It does not require participants to disclose a detailed account of what happened to them, making it accessible to those who want the benefits of group processing without recounting specifics. 'The More' is a 12-session, women's-only group focused on connection and shared experience. This group accepts insurance and is designed for women looking to build understanding and support alongside others navigating similar challenges. Background My clinical background spans decades and includes military service, correctional and forensic settings, crisis response, and general outpatient practice. This range shows up directly in the work: comfort with a wide variety of presentations, from common concerns like anxiety and depression to more complex situations involving trauma, substance use, or legal system involvement, all treated with the same level of care and attention. FAQ How do sessions work, and how long are they? Initial sessions run 90 minutes to allow time for a thorough intake. Ongoing sessions are typically 60 minutes. Both in-person and telehealth appointments are available, depending on your preference and what's clinically appropriate. What insurance do you accept? This practice is in-network with most major insurance carriers in Wisconsin, with paneling continuing to expand. If your specific plan isn't listed, reach out directly, as it may already be in progress. What if I can't afford full price? A sliding fee scale is available for clients facing financial barriers to care. This is discussed directly and worked out based on individual circumstances, not a fixed formula. Do I have to talk about the details of a traumatic experience right away? No. Treatment starts with building safety and stability. Specialized approaches like EMDR or Brainspotting don't require a detailed verbal account of what happened before they can be effective. What kinds of concerns do you treat? A broad range, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, life transitions, trauma, substance use, and challenges related to legal or justice system involvement. Do you offer telehealth? Yes, both in-person and telehealth sessions are available, depending on what works best for your schedule and needs.
