Life is not random. Sometimes we have this intuition in the midst of difficult situations but are not sure what to do with it. Turning points are usually waiting for us when we get inside the themes brought on by the difficulty. I work collaboratively on finding those points of insight, putting them into workable terms, and considering actionable steps with you. In practice, this happens via a combination of approaches I have found useful, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychodynamic models like Object Relations and person-centered therapy. I have several years of post-graduate institute training and experience and I supervise at a group practice. As a composer, bassist and drummer, I bring creativity and lateral thinking to this work and understand unique life issues facing artists and creative personalities. The sometimes long, winding journey toward actualization and the many different paths and pictures of success. I offer sliding scale fees to musicians and other artists. I also have experience assisting with workplace issues and managing dynamics in business relationships. Lastly, I have spent a good deal of time working with unconscious dynamics, experiential avoidance, and the accumulated small 't' trauma of too much time in Sartre's 'bad faith.' My stance is broad (Bion, Balint, Klein, Kohut, Chekov, Stephen Pressfield, Mike Dooley and others) and feel fortunate to have helped many people over the years. Foreigners and immigrants are welcome.

I went for my first session last night for family therapy with my family member and Dr Elman demonstrated an extraordinary capacity to listen closely to large amounts of information and rapidly sorting out the fundamental meaning within while keeping the conversation flowing with insightful questions and balancing the testimony between my family member and I. I was excited to share and I strongly believe Dr Elman will be able to meet our needs. My family member was very interested in our next visit as well.

He is a great listener, but is also excellent at prompting you to speak about what you want to get out, which is definitely appreciated. He is patient and understanding with creatives, and he wants to get as much info before making an assessment of the situation. Every session is always an attempt at meeting me where I am, and more times than I can count I have walked away with a clearer understanding of what I am going through. If you're lucky you may even get a chance to hear him play bass! A thoughtful and creatively inclined person. I highly recommend a session with him if you are in a bind, need help organizing your thoughts, or just need someone to lend an ear.

It is hard, especially today, to find care that is actually representative of the word 'care'. Especially in the time of telemedicine it is impossible to find care that ACTUALLY cares- and I am lucky to have found that here. It is also nice to work with someone who is not explicitly secular, as it is comforting to have someone around who is also able to view things through a spiritual lens.
