Mary Marrero

Mary Marrero

Psychotherapist
FL
Mary brings more than 25 years of experience providing psychotherapy and over 30 years of experience helping individuals navigate life's challenges with greater resilience, self-understanding, and hope. She works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and the lasting impact of difficult experiences. Mary is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and integrate distressing experiences that may continue to affect the present. EMDR can be particularly helpful for trauma, PTSD, childhood wounds, anxiety, panic, negative self-beliefs, and experiences that feel "stuck" despite insight and effort. Many clients find that EMDR allows them to move beyond simply talking about painful experiences and begin experiencing meaningful emotional relief. Mary's approach is warm, collaborative, and deeply compassionate. She believes healing happens within a safe therapeutic relationship where clients feel seen, understood, and supported as they explore both current struggles and the experiences that have shaped them. As a multicultural therapist, Mary provides services in both English and Spanish (Se habla español). She offers telehealth sessions throughout Florida.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and my goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable showing up exactly as you are. I believe that healing happens when people feel genuinely understood, not judged or rushed. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, or a difficult life transition, we'll work together to better understand what's contributing to your distress and identify a path forward. I also incorporate EMDR therapy when appropriate, which can be especially helpful for processing traumatic experiences, painful memories, and longstanding patterns that continue to affect your life today.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions focus on getting to know you, understanding your concerns, and learning about the experiences that have shaped your life. Together, we'll identify your goals and develop a treatment approach that feels right for you. As therapy progresses, we'll explore both present-day challenges and the deeper patterns that may be contributing to them. Depending on your needs, our work may include developing coping skills, processing difficult emotions, strengthening relationships, or using EMDR to help resolve distressing experiences and reduce emotional reactivity. Throughout the process, I strive to provide a supportive, collaborative environment where meaningful change can occur at a pace that feels comfortable and sustainable.
