Dr Attar did a fantastic job of putting my apprehensive tween at ease about having her first tooth pulled. Although she was very worried before the appointment, he reassured her and made it so pain-free, that she claimed, "that was really cool!" as we pulled out of the parking lot afterwards.

I have 50 years of being terrified of dentists--from many BAD experiences. Dr Attar, however, really changed that for me. He's not only personable, but has killed my dental fear dead! In fact, I look forward to going for the various treatments now, and that is so strange--and welcome--for me!

Dr. Al Attar was born in Iraq, he moved with his family to Virginia in 1995. He obtained his B.A in Biology from the University of Virginia in 2001, he went on to complete his dental education at Virginia Commonwealth University where he graduated Cum Laude in 2005. Upon graduation from dental school and in order to enhance his dental education, he was accepted into a 2-years post-graduate general practice residency program at Virginia Commonwealth University/McGuire Hunter Holmes Veteran Administration Medical center in Richmond, VA. This training experience afforded him the opportunity to enhance his skills and expand his scope in terms of various dental procedures that he can perform, such as dental implants and periodontal surgery.
Dr. Al Attar went on to practice general dentistry in Falls Church, VA for few months before relocating to Buffalo, NY to join a multi-office dental practice. After spending almost 2 years in Buffalo, another change of scenery was in order due to family reasons, and Dr. Al Attar moved to Toronto, ON and practiced in down town Toronto for 4 years. Dr. Al Attar gained invaluable experience working in different working environments (urban vs. suburban), but his sight was still set on returning to Northern Virginia. In early 2013, he returned to NOVA area and joined the team at Mount Vernon Dental Smiles.
Dr. Al Attar is married to his wife of 10 years, Rose and has 2 sons (Josef, 5 and Dani, 4months). He enjoys spending time with his family, travelling and exploring different parts of the world, following sports (hail to the redskins!).

Dr. Al Attar and his staff exemplify service at its best. He takes his time to make sure your concerns are addressed, and will work through any inhibition or discomfort until you are confident and ready to move forward. The staff continues to go above and beyond to make you feel at home...a comfort you definitely need at a dental office.I unfortunately have had alot of dental work in the past and I only wish I had Dr. A and staff a long time ago!!!

I hadn't been to the dentist in over three years because I was scared/ashamed/embarrassed about what they would say. I was warmly welcomed and everything was explained to me. When I told them I why I hadn't been to the dentist they reassured me. They said "you are here now and that is what matters." I am so happy I found this dentist and am planning on going back. On some days they stay open until 7, which is a big plus so I don't have to take time off work to go to the dentist.
