Dr. April also grew up as an "army brat," but resided many years in Bowie, Maryland. She attended the University of Virginia and received a degree in Biology and Bioethics in 2003. There she volunteered at the Charlottesville Free Clinic and developed a love for dentistry. Dr. Toyer attended dental school at the University of Maryland and took part in the Pediatric Dentistry Clerkship program. It was there that she met her husband, Dr. Leonard. During her summers off from dental school, Dr. Toyer worked for the Department of Education to be surrounded by young smiles. After graduating from dental school in 2007, she attended Howard University for her residency in pediatric dentistry, which she completed in 2009. In her spare time Dr. Toyer enjoys writing, running, and playing the piano.
Dr. April believes that the prevention of dental disease is the best cure. She skillfully delivers restorative care utilizing child-centered behavior guidance and anxiolysis techniques as well as dental outpatient surgery under general anesthesia.
Dr. April became a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry in 2011, which "certifies pediatric dentists based on standards of excellence that lead to high quality oral health care for infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special health care needs. Certification by the ABPD provides assurance to the public that a pediatric dentist has successfully completed accredited training and a voluntary examination process designed to continually validate the knowledge, skills, and experience requisite to the delivery of quality patient care."

Dr. Toyer was very prompt. Her staff was understanding to my son's fear of the dentist and they were very accommodating. I believe I will be switching my other two children to her office as well. They even have a wonderful play area so that the children are occupied while they wait. I was highly impressed.

I appreciated the office staff moving my son's appointment up so that we would not have to wait for an hour (my appointment was a hour before his). They are a well meaning and thoughtful staff. That is why even though I don''t allow my children to watch TV unsupervised I didn't make a big fuss about him watching an inappropriate cartoon when I went to check on him. I know that the staff didn't mean any harm. Next time, I am sure they will check with me in advance of taking him to back for his appointment. This is a really great office.

April was great! I love the pediatric care. However, the children's waiting room was dirty and not one of the toys worked. The carpet needed cleaning badly. Also, there was spilt juice in the chairs and floor by the cchildren's area. It looked very unkept.

This was a very good visit. I was in and out in a blink of an eye. I really like going to this office because it is so clean and modern. There are games for children to play and juice/bottled water for refreshment while waiting (thought I didn't get to wait long enough to grab one - that's how quick I was seen) This was my second visit to this office for cleaning, I drive almost 40 minutes to get to this location because they are so nice, clean and professional. I highly recommend this office, especially for children.

I looked the office space, my 10yr old is very nervous about dentists, but there was so much to see and do here for the kids. The staff was excellent, and the assistant that did my sons cleaning was super nice and very patient with him. Dr. Toyer is very nice and easy to talk to, answered any and all of my questions. Our dental hygienist was amazing! She said she had a 2 year old, so she knew exactly what to do to make our 19 month old feel comfortable. April Toyer was super nice too. They were a great team and made me feel comfortable bringing my toddler in!
