La Jolla Center for Holistic Dentistry was founded by Dr. Fen-Hui Chen in 1999. Dr. Fen-Hui Chen is a San Diego dentist who is dedicated to her practice and holistic dentistry.
Dr. Chen's grandfather was a very well-known Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor in Taiwan. Yet, because of the dominating allopathic healthcare educational system, Dr. Chen was educated and trained to practice allopathically and had been oblivious of her family’s TCM heritage.
Since her son's illness in 1999, she studied and researched integrated medicine in various modalities to cure her son’s medical issues. She then began to incorporate Holistic Dentistry into her daily dental practice.
She is a San Diego dentist who has more than 30 years combined experience of traditional and holistic dental practices.
Since then, Dr. Chen has become known as a highly qualified and respected Oral Physician and Dentist in San Diego. First and foremost, she maintains the priority of providing gentle, caring treatment using the most innovative, painless techniques. She practices Whole Body Holistic Dentistry and is dedicated to getting to know each of her patients. Dr. Chen listens carefully to her patients’ concerns and always takes the time to discuss the details of her findings after a comprehensive examination, as well as the recommended procedures that will be best for their needs or wants.
Dr. Chen graduated from the prestigious University of Southern California School of Dentistry, practiced in San Francisco, CA, then Cleveland, Ohio before moving back to San Diego, California in 1986.

I have had two appointments with Dr Chen. The first was to remove a long standing infected problem tooth that had 2 root canals done last year and failed. There was a lot of infection in the tooth, gum and jaw bone. I went back today (2 weeks later). There was still some infection and Dr Chen had to go back in and clean it up. It was a bit of an ordeal, but actually felt much better afterward. Dr Chen is very empathetic, excellent at diagnosing the problem, has no bones about telling you what is going on (whether you want to hear it or not, but is appreciated none the less), and very thorough! She has a great sense of humor, too.

I was very pleased although the news I got was not what I had hoped for, although it was what I expected. Dr Chen is a straight shooter and tells it how it is. I like that a lot, because you know exactly what to expect and what needs to be done without any beating around the bush. I have been searching for a long time for a dentist like this. I will recommend Dr Chen. Wish I had found her years ago.

The staff was very friendly and the Dr.'s assistant was extremely accommodating and knowledgeable. They took the time to explain everything which I truly appreciated. The Dr, was a little hard to understand (she has a fairly strong accent) but she was delightful and really knows her stuff. I am going back to get much more extensive work done and feel very confident that she is the person to finally get my dental issues resolved in a way that supports rather than damages my health. Couldn't be happier!!!!!

Dr. Chen is so precise; if I came into the appointment covered with concrete and hanging upside down from the ceiling, she would zero in on the problem, position herself in a matching posture, remove the impediment, and sterilize and seal it up with Ozone and Ultraviolet. First-rate 'Dental Artistry'!
