Dr. Appelle is so kind, patient and understanding of my fear of dentists. I also have a bad gag reflex and he suggested using a numbing spray that worked wonders. Couldn’t recommend more!

I have used Dr. Appelle for many years. I have always found him to be experienced, professional, honest and caring. He shows great interest in making sure you understand what he'll be doing and why. I had a crown done and he showed his typical methodical approach to dentistry which made this visit a positive one.

BEST DENTIST EVER! While going to the dentist for an extraction is not at the top of my list, it does become necessary when I am in pain because of my teeth (or tooth). A colkeague at work recommended Dr Appelle, and i was able to get an emergency appountment (that in itself is nothing short of a miracle in this city). I was prepared to wait, since it was a last minute appointment and the nice receptionist just squeezed me in, but i dont think i had to wait more than ten minutes. I was happy to see that the office was beautiful and spanking clean. That made me feel comfortable. I mean, thats how you should feel in a dentusts office i would think I explained the cause of my concerns to Dr Appelle and he listened carefully. He explained to me that the tooth had to be extracted but he would give me a local anesthesia and to raise my hand if i was in any pain from the procedure It wasnt a quick procedure but i dont want to feel anyone is rushing either. Dr Appelle was gentle and thorough and i left knowing that i had put my trust in the right hands. I did raise my hand once and he stopped immediately to i think increase the level of anesthesia. Im not sure exactly what he did but i felt better after that. I was in a bit of pain when i got home so i called the office. He came to the phone right away and suggested i come in the following day if the pain persists. That alone was enough to make me feel better. Sure enough the pain started to subside and now it us early evening on the same day i got the procedure and am totally comfortable I see some of the reviews and while i feel everyone is entitled to their own opinion, i feel my review appropriately describes my experience. And by the way Dr Appelle has a fabulous dental hygienist. A consummate professional, and i can see why she picked that office to work in. Five stars and my gratitude to Dr Appelle and his wonderful caring sraff for making my pain go away. I recommend this office highly!

I don't like to leave negative reviews, but my experience here was frankly horrible. I felt that Dr. Appelle was very dismissive of my concerns and, more importantly, of my pain. I went in for a wisdom tooth removal. During the procedure, I had local anesthetic only and as such was totally lucid. I vocalized that I was experiencing pain at various points during the (lengthy) procedure, and I was ignored or dismissed each time, with little regard for how I was wincing and even occasionally crying. Dr. Appelle also openly expressed skepticism when partway through the surgery I told him that I had begun to regain feeling and required more Novocaine. Afterwards, I called his office regarding intense pain from a stitch that hadn't been cut short enough and was poking into my cheek. I got the runaround from several people in his office before finally getting him on the phone. He was very dismissive and clearly did not want to come into the office on this particular weekday, which was apparently his day off. He suggested that I could wait out the pain until the following week, and that perhaps I was overreacting. After an excruciating weekend of pain, I came in the next week to have the stitch cut shorter and immediately felt immense relief to the point where I could stop taking my painkillers that same night. Too bad I had to spend several days suffering because he didn't believe my pain was significant enough! I consistently felt that his bedside manner went beyond being simply brusque and dismissive and verged into the realm of outright condescension. I understand that Dr. Appelle may be familiar with this procedure to the point where it does not worry him, but he should be perceptive enough to notice -- and care -- when his patients are extremely nervous, uncomfortable or in pain. For what it's worth, another review mentioned believing that his bedside manner was sexist -- I'm young and female and am inclined to agree. He repeatedly told me that what I was feeling was "normal," while also paradoxically telling me that I "should not be feeling so much pain" as if to suggest that I might be overreacting or overstating my situation. After conferring with friends who have had the procedure (as most adults have), I believe that he was correct that the pain I was experiencing was certainly NOT normal. Too bad he seemed to believe that the issue was in my head rather than my mouth! If it weren't for his lovely dental hygienists, who held my hand during the procedure and asked follow-up questions about my pain when he did not, I would have had a one-hundred percent negative experience. Alas, I still strongly recommend against making an appointment with Dr. Appelle's office.
Dr. Appelle is a satisfactory dentist with the most condescending, arrogant and sexist bedside manner. I have never been talked down to in such a way. His staff are very nice, with the exception of the receptionist, and he talks down to them as well. Would never recommend his services to anyone.
I initially went to see Gerald Appelle about tooth pain that I had because he had a same-day appointment available. He said he would not do the bi-annual cleaning at that appointment, and scheduled me for the cleaning the following week. When I came in the following week, his assistant took xrays, and then Gerald (who already had forgotten meeting me re-introduced himself, and then I told him that we already met). He then asked me what I was in for, and I told him that I was here for the cleaning we had scheduled the week prior. He acted like I had no idea what I was talking about, and that I would have to schedule yet another appointment, to have the cleaning done. This is when I started to get uncomfortable vibes from this 'professional' and the red flags started appearing. He looked at my teeth, and told me I would need a 'special cleaning' that would require my gums to be numb, and that I should pay for it upfront to have it scheduled quicker, rather than have my insurance approve it. Because I already started feeling uncomfortable about this man, I told him that I would need to think about this 'cleaning' and would get back to him. He then told me to open my mouth, and started prodding his dental hook into my gums, with such a hard force than any dentist previous dentist had applied before, making them bleed, and telling me that my gums are in poor condition, and gave me a mirror to look at my bleeding gums. Then he told me I needed this cleaning to remedy the problem. He then told me that he was going to 'put in' for my insurance to have this 'special cleaning' approved. When I told him I did not want to request it from insurance, he took off my dental bib, and told me that 'I have a real problem. Get your head out of the sand' in a spiteful tone. I walked out of the office after hearing this. I won't jump to any conclusions about why Gerald treated me this way, but I certainly did not feel comfortable during my time at his office and felt his motive was to extract as much money as possible from treating me. I will definitely be going to another dentist for a professional opinion and never returning to this practice.
I want to preface by saying that I NEVER write reviews. I almost didn't go to this office because of one of the reviews I had read about the office and doctor, but I work in the building so I figured let me just go in for a consultation. I could not have been more pleased from the moment I walked in everyone was so nice and accommodating I waited less than 4 or 5 minutes before I was seated and the office is so modern and beautiful. I however am still so nervous, I am terrified of the dentist. In walks Dr. Appelle who looks at my xrays and explains I need 4 wisdom tooth extractions. He right away calmed me and assured it would be painless and it was. When he told me the first tooth was already out I was shocked!!!! I didnt feel a thing! Dr. Appelle is the best dentist ever I cant say enough about him thank you for making it painless!!! I really couldn't have hoped to find a better dentist. Love Dr.Appelle I found my new dentist!!

I found the receptionists to be unhelpful. And, they tried to charge me more based on the length of my procedure opposed to the actual service. They changed the fee after I pointed out the discrepancy. I would also not recommend for Wisdom tooth extractions.
I hate going to the dentist and Dr. Appelle and staff made sure I felt comfortable. Made up a treatment plan and will tactical everything step by step

I went to have a crown made, I had to wait about an hour every time before I was attended. The process was painful and I ended up with an uncomfortable feeling/pain everytime I chew with that side of the mouth.
