Dr. Murray grew up in Mission Beach and comes from a family of San Diego dentists. After developing an early interest in the arts and sciences at Bird Rock Elementary, Muirlands Middle School and La Jolla High School Dr. Murray attended UC Santa Cruz and UC San Diego where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Dr. Murray started his research journey in a molecular cardiology lab in UCSD’s School of Medicine then transitioned to plant flower and seed genetics in the Biology department. After a couple years at UCSD Dr. Murray was recruited by a local biotechnology company where he spent eight years designing the screening assays for potential therapeutics.
It was during his time in pharmaceutical development that he realized his skill set would be better utilized on the front lines of healthcare. Dentistry was a natural fit for Dr. Murray blending his desire to increase peoples overall health, his scientific problem solving experience and his love of artistic pursuits. He was accepted into the inaugural class at Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine where he excelled. Dr. Murray was recognized on the dean’s list multiple times and received multiple awards for leadership and exceptional school performance through the course of the program. After serving as the founding president of the American Student Dental Association chapter at WesternU he was elected by his peers to the American Student Dental Association Board of Trustees where he represented all of California’s dental students. During this time Dr. Murray recognized the importance of being directly involved in political issues that affect patients and the dentists serving them. This led to his appointment as the Chair of the American Student Dental Association, Council on Advocacy where he led the led the charge on issues facing oral health and the professionals dedicated to it.
Dr. Murray excels with the support of his family. He has been with his wife, Stephanie, for 20 years this fall and together they are raising two fantastic daughters. Dr. Murray enjoys spending most of his free time with his family at his children’s sporting events, the beach or camping in the local deserts and mountains. He has also enjoys visiting their classrooms both as a volunteer and to educate the classes on oral health issues. His goal is to bring the highest level of healthcare wherever he goes."
