Born in Los Angeles but raised in Bellevue, Dr. Sekijima proudly considers herself a PNW native. After graduating from the University of Washington, she went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. She graduated in the top of her class and was awarded membership to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, among other didactic and clinical awards. She then made her way back to the PNW for her General Practice Residency (GPR) with Swedish Medical Center.
Dr. Sekijima has always been drawn to the dentistry’s unique combination of science, art, and interpersonal relationships, as well as its demand for a perfectionist’s dedication and attention to detail — a perfect match for her interests and personality. As a dentist, Dr. Sekijima’s goal is to not only provide excellent clinical care, but also to partner with her patients in their oral health care. She believes in presenting patients with information about their mouths in a way that makes sense so they can then make decisions about their oral health care that are right for them. This is one reason she developed her dental blog, Filling You In. She also values service locally and abroad and has done dental mission trips to Honduras and Guatemala.
Dr. Sekijima and her husband, Jonathan, love being parents to their son, Lawson, and daughter, Gemma. Together they enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors, whether going for walks, being on the water, playing in the yard, or even doing some yard work. They value their community and are Disneyland fanatics.
