Jorge Pelaez is a native of the rolling hills of Western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. He completed pre-dental studies at Penn State University where he was also a member of the varsity golf team. Subsequently, he attended dental school at the University of Pittsburgh.
After completing a one year AEGD (Advanced Education in General Dentistry) residency, he spent an additional 7 years in military service as a Navy dentist. During his military time he was stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina and at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California. The Navy then brought him back east to Virginia Beach where he spent his last 3 years at the Dam Neck Dental Clinic. Dr. Pelaez completed two deployments while in the Navy. The first was an 8-month deployment as the dentist for 2,200 Marines of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the Norfolk based USS Iwo Jima during the ship’s inaugural deployment. He also spent 8 months in Camp Virginia, Kuwait where he was the dentist working as part of a 5 member team serving the US military troops as well as a multinational group of patients from South Korea, Mongolia, Australia, the UK to name a few.
After separating from the military in the spring of 2009, he immediately became an associate dentist in private practice. It was always a life long goal to practice dentistry under his own terms. Being able to build his ideal long-term practice after 13 years as a dentist on land owned by family has been very rewarding. It involved long delays in approval by the city zoning board and a lot of patience, however it has come together beautifully since construction started in October 2013.
Dr. Pelaez thrives on continuing education. He attained his fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2010. On a regular basis, he seeks out the latest techniques and equipment to make dentistry more efficient, comfortable and affordable for his patients. He maintains active membership in the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, Tidewater Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Implant Dentistry and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
“My favorite hobby is actually dentistry believe it or not. I think I’m very lucky to love my job as much as I do. I really never feel that I’m working when treating patients. Practicing dentistry is one of the most enjoyable activities for me.”
Since moving to Virginia Beach in 2006, he met his wife Reena Talreja-Pelaez, a local OB/GYN. They have two young children, Mateo and Lola. In his free time, Dr. Pelaez likes to do most anything outdoors including running, mountain biking, going to the beach, basketball and golf. As a cook, he enjoys experimenting with new recipes.
“I enjoy the temperate climate of Virginia Beach and after being in the Navy for 8 years I became accustomed to living near the coast. I feel land locked any time I’m away from the coast for a few days! And of course Reena is a native and her parents and brother live here. Even my parents, originally from Spain, moved to Virginia Beach in retirement 5 years ago so it truly is home for me and my family.”

I had recently moved to the area and was looking for a dentist in the area. I found this office online while searching and was impressed by the website and the ability to make appointments through their website. When I arrived at the office it was very professional and peaceful and all of the staff was friendly and helpful. The facility itself was very clean and up to date. I was very comfortable during my visit and even enjoyed some episodes of “Fixer Upper” while waiting in the chair and getting my teeth cleaned. My insurance was explained to me so I knew what was covered and how much. The doctor himself was very warm and welcoming and knowledgeable. I overall really enjoyed the office and already made my 6 month appointment!

Here's how it my visit went: I went online and picked an appointment- miraculously available the same day. The paperwork was filled out easily via ipad, no waiting! The hygienist came out and confirmed a few key details. Imaging was completed in a matter of seconds, and then I'm back in the chair watching TV, and actually enjoying myself. The procedure was completed effortlessly- with zero pain or discomfort, and payment was simple and quick. Then I get an email giving me a recap of my procedure, next steps, my next appointment is booked and now I'm doing this survey!
Dr. Pelaez and his staff were impeccable, and efficient!
I can't believe how good this experience was, I look forward to my next visit. This is by far one of the best service experiences I've ever had, especially with regards to healthcare.
