About Dr. Katayoon Shafagh
Dr. Katayoon Shafagh received a four-year scholarship to the University of Texas Dental School in Houston, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and graduated with honors. She was then accepted to the University of the Pacific to complete her Master's degree in Dental Science and Orthodontics, which she finished in June of 1993.
Although Dr. Shafagh's academic achievements have prepared her to serve her patients with the required knowledge, it is her life experience that has allowed her to treat them in a very special way. Her most important life experience is being a single mother to two amazing kids who lost their father in a tragedy at a very young age. Raising her kids with amazing resilience, focus, and hope has not only created a happy and emotionally balanced family, but also taught them that love and hope can overcome all adversity.
She is also a healthy cancer survivor. Going through the hardship of facing a life-threatening disease has left her with one thing in mind: do not sweat the small stuff. Enjoy every moment of life and share your love with everybody who comes in contact with you.
Finally, being a yogi keeps her focused on being compassionate and non-judgmental. At this point in her life, she feels blessed to be happy, healthy, and loving, and her goal is to give all of this back to the people around her.
Dr. Shafagh is excited to be opening the first all-Invisalign Orthodontics office in the nation. Her new office is fun, high-tech, and LEED certified. It's a reflection of how she lives her life. Dr. Shafagh can't wait to give you the perfect smile you have been waiting for.

I would recommend Studio City Orthodontist to my family & friends. Dr. and staff so friendly; I felt very welcome. Dr. was attentive and didn’t rush through my consultation; she took her time to listen to my concerns. So Happy to find a Dr. with the highest level of Invisalign experience.

Dr. Shafagh and her staff rock. I have been wanting to get my teeth straightened for years but didn’t want braces because I am a full time performer! I went in for a consultation and finished my treatment within 8 months, free of pain, AND I could still perform without worrying about anyone noticing.

As a mother, finding an orthodontist my kids are comfortable seemed like a difficult task. I assumed that it would be a chore for all of us. Dr Shafagh has proven all of us wrong! She is totally approachable with my kids (two boys, aged 10 and 14) and they feel totally comfortable with her. She understands kids so well and as a mother it is amazing to feel zero stress with doctor visits. The way she talks to my kids has been so refreshing and the entire process has been pain free. If you are a mom looking for an orthodontist who is great with kids- I highly recommend Dr Shafagh.

Fantastic spot right in the heart of Studio City with an even more fantastic staff. It is conveniently located near my house, which is great because I have sent three of my kids to Dr. Shafagh over the years. My kids have raved over their invisalign because they can still eat their favorite foods…I have most definitely recommend her office to my friends and family.

My experience at Studio City Ortho was seamless from start to finish! It is a very welcoming space with an even more welcoming staff, which has been hard to find. As a single mother of a 14 year old daughter I have made it my mission to find a comfortable orthodontist office for her, and this place feels like family.

This is my favorite women-owned dental office in LA. My friend recommended that I start invisalign because I have been complaining about my teeth for some time now and I am pleased to know that I will be able to confidently smile for my wedding next year!!! Switching out each invisalign is such an easy process and every concern I had beforehand went away after my first appointment (And there was a free consultation). You should do this!

Going to Dr. Shafagh was the easiest orthodontics journey I could have imagined! I had previously had braces as a teenager but removed them due to pain and discomfort. I arrived to Dr Shafaghs office nervous because of the bad experiences I previously had- but within 5 minutes of meeting the doctor I realized I made the right choice. She assured me, provided me with communication every step of the way, and the best part is I saw all of the results I wanted with Invisalign with even less time and pain than I did with braces. I am really grateful for my experiences with Dr Shafagh and highly recommend her to anyone nervous to get any treatment done. She is lovely to work with and has amazing results!

I have been going to this office for a routine teeth whitening twice a year for some time and I highly recommend it. I am not a tech savvy person but making an appointment each time is truly the easiest process and never fails me.

Doctor Shafagh is a great orthodontist.As I walked in,the staff greeted me with open smiles.They were very friendly and organized.The wait time was very short and I got assisted right away.Doctor Shafagh was very kind and detailed about her work and she confronted all of my concerns.I am very satisfied with the results!

I loved my visits at Studio City Orthodontist. Fixing my teeth was an investment in myself that is priceless. It was always a pleasure to walk into the comfortable office and knowing that I’m in good hands with a Dr. who really knows what she is doing. The staff there is wonderful too.

I have taken both of my children to Studio City Orthodontist for treatment. My husband also went as an adult. Dr Kathy is top notch, professional, patient, kind, and understanding. I like how she speaks to my kids and me in a respectful manner and answers every question in a thorough way.
The office is beautiful, warm and welcoming. The interactions we have had with staff are positive ones.
Extremely happy with the results. My son is still doing his treatment and the change in his teeth improves weekly. Dr Kathy creates a treatment plan and really strives to make sure you get that perfect smile.
HIGHLY recommend Dr Kathy/Studio City Orthodontist to everyone. Would give 10 stars if I could.

Dr Kathy and her team are so compassionate and professional. I have always been apprehensive about getting any dental work done. I don’t like going to the dentist! I've been seeing Dr. Shafagh since 2020 and i'm so glad this is the practice I chose to complete my care. I ended up being based in New York for 2 years due to Covid, which made my treatment longer than anticipated, but the staff worked with me during this hard time to make sure my treatment was always still on track. While in NY, I had to see an ortho there for a checkup as I couldn't fly back to LA at that time. The ortho in NY was raving about how perfect my teeth looked. So that is testament to Dr. Shafagh's great work!
I was able to see my treatment progress via videos sent to my email, which made it super easy to explain the adjustments I wanted to make along the way. This was great for me, as my last orthodontist never listened to me and I wasn't happy when I finished care with them, hence why I needed to get Invisalign after. Dr. Shafagh and the assistant, Oscar, would always listen to my concerns and took notes on the changes I wanted to make. She made having braces a second time totally worth it.
Also, seeing a doctor in person was important to me. I didn't want to feel like I was using one of those direct-to-consumer aligner companies. I got to see the doctor almost every single visit when I could make it to LA and talk through concerns, changes, pain points etc. The care felt personal and detailed!
Regarding the office, it is modern and super clean. And the receptionist is absolutely lovely, both in-person and on the phone.
Would definitely recommend anyone in the area come in for a consultation!

Dr. Kathy and her team are awesome, she is an amazing orthodontist. From my very first visit I knew she has the doctor for me I wanted to do it with Invisalign and that is all they offer in her straightening she is an expert. Some of the other services they offer in addition to Invisalign, teeth bleaching and cleanings. Her office is beautifully done and equipped with the state of the art technology and certified given. I would highly recommend Dr. Kathy and her team!

I had not been to a dentist in many years due to terrible fear. I had read about Dr. Kathy on ZocDoc and am thrilled to find her. From my 1st encounter w/ Susan, the delightful receptionist, I felt at ease. Dr. Shafagh actually came into the waiting room to tell me she would see me in "just a few minutes". The doctor's manner is calming pleasant & professional & makes experience no big deal. Her staff were very polite professional and made me feel very comfortable. I will continue to use & recommend her.
