He was THE BEST dentist I have ever been to. I was a little nervous about getting work done. He made me feel comfortable and made it as less painful as possible. I would recommend him to everyone I know. He is definitely my new primary dentist. The office is neat and the staff is friendly, professional and quick. I'm glad I found him on ZocDoc.

Dr. Kenneth Shumate, a native to the Washington D.C. Prior to transitioning to dentistry from a career in education, Dr. Shumate was a mathematics teacher, a track and a football coach for Westlake High School and General Smallwood Middle School.
He attended High Point University in High Point, NC graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. He then graduated with honors from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. Dr. Shumate was chosen for a membership into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. He later completed advanced general dentistry at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington D.C.
Dr. Shumate is a current member of the American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental Association and The Academy of Osseointegration.

Dr. Shipmate and his assistant Donte were very professional. The office is small but initimate. I love that the x-ray machine is the exact room; one room experience. Also there is a TV in the room and Donte, the assistant, asked what channel I wanted to watch. The exam and cleaning practice went well and fast. He knew what teeth had been extracted and I was his first patient he saw with having two teeth in one, he was excited.

I never really like going to the dentist, but Dr. Shumate and his team were absolutely amazing. The reception area is pretty small, but warm and cozy, and I was incredibly surprised by how big the rest of the office was. Lots of warm colors and the use of their technology was amazing (your x-rays show up on a computer right behind you). Dr. Shumate did the entire cleaning and I really appreciated his due diligence with keeping me informed and aware of what was going on, what he was using, etc. If you're looking for a great dentist in Southern Maryland, Dr. Shumate is who you should turn to.

My name is John Tippett and in my 37 yrs of dentist visits, my visit to Dr. Shumates office was the absolute by far best dentist appt. I have ever had. Walked right in, was treated like a family member and within minutes, was sitting in the chair and was nervous, scared and embarrassed by the condition of my teeth. Dr. Shumate came in, made me nowfeel at ease, treated me like his family, explained everything step by step and was one of the most decent, down to earth, compassionate men I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He took the scared, nervous, embarrassment feelings right away. I was worried about being treated differently because of having state medicare. Not at all, you would of thought I was the president of the u.s. with royal treatment. All the staff was the same way. His office and equipment was the newest, cleanest, most top of the line advanced equipment I've ever seen. He spared no expense when setting up his business from start to finish. HATS OFF TO ALL THERE, I'M TRULY IMPRESSED AND WILL RECOMMEND 200% TO ALL OTHERS. TO DR SHUMATE AND STAFF,THANK YOU AND JOB WELL DONE. I'M A PATIENT FOR LIFE AND WILL BE BACK.

Although this was my first visit to Dr. Shumate it was a good one. I have not been to a dentist in a long time (and my mouth shows it!) because I absolutely hate it and get the nervous shakes when I have gone in the past. Dr. Shumate put me at ease immeidately. He was knowledgeable, understanding and patient with me. He took his time explaining the work I will need to have accomplished (removal of 2 previous root canal and 2 bridges installed). I would highly recommend his services. I will try and post any additional info after my next few visits.

Dr. Shumate was great. There was absolutely no wait, the office is very inviting, and the dental chair is comfortable with a large flat screen TV in view to take your mind off of the dental procedures. Also, some dentist like to charge a fee, although they know insurance covers 100% of preventive care, but I was charged absolutely nothing for my preventive services with everything being submitted to my insurance. Best dentist so far, besides him being a Redskins fan :-)
