Dr. Kourtsounis or “Dr. K” is a pediatric dentist originally from Long Island. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1998. After graduation, he returned to Maryland where his family had moved and was accepted into the top ranked University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery where he received his D.D.S. in 2003.
Upon graduation, Dr. Kourtsounis moved up to New York City and completed a General Practice Residency at the St. Luke’s/ Roosevelt Hospital Center. He served as chief his one year there.
After completion of his GPR, Dr. Kourtsounis worked in private practice for two years in both Manhattan and Brooklyn, focusing on pediatric dentistry.
In 2006, Dr. Kourtsounis was accepted into the pediatric dentistry specialty at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He served as chief resident and helped author various publications which appeared in local and nationwide dental journals.
Upon completion of his training in 2008, Dr. Kourtsounis opened Smiles for Kids in Whitestone. In 2011, Smiles for Kids in Ronkonkoma was opened.
Dr. Kourtsounis has continued to stay on at Mount Sinai as an attending faculty and has dedicated his free time to teaching at the residency and performing dental rehabilitation cases in the operating room under general anesthesia.
He is very active in the community and volunteers regularly giving seminars to various preschools in the area on dental prevention, hygiene, and diet.
He is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the New York State Dental Association and the American Dental Association.

Amazing staff and doctora there. Office is very kid friendly for kids of all ages. The receptionist makes sure that when you are signed in within 10 mins your child is called to the back to be seen.

It was my first visit. This place was nice and clean. Was a little disappointed that Dr. didn't introduce herself. First technician came and took x-ray, then hygienist who explained everything to my daughter and cleaned her teeth. When Dr. walked in I had to ask her who she is and what is she going to do. She didn't even said hi when she walked into room which was kind of weird. She seemed to be very quite and when I asked some questions she answered them all nicely. My daughter liked this place because she got a gift and there are i-Pods for playing in the waiting room. :-)). I am giving another shot and had scheduled another appointment. Thank you,

This place is amazing. I would recommend that everyone bring their children here. The staff is so kind and sincerely care about their patients. We were seen almost immediately (which has never happened to us anywhere else). They actually take the time to explain everything to you and answer any questions you may have. You don't get that rushed feeling. They made my son feel so comfortable that he didn't want to leave lol. Thanks everyone at Dental Smiles 4 Kids!!
