This is one of those situations where you don't know you've had great service all your life until you've had bad. I booked an appointment with DR Sarah Hart through ZocDoc and had it confirmed, but when I arrived at the office they had no record of it. The receptionist told me she had not passed on the message. The waiting room was, empty, freezing, and smelled like dog. The receptionist (dental technician?) was incredibly unprofessional and uninformed and gave me very little faith in the quality of treatment I was about to receive. it took over and hour for me to be seen, even though the office was empty of patients, and the quality of treatment I received was among the worst dental visits of my life. I do not believe the technician was qualified, and would definitely not return.

I have been coming to Dr. Sarah Hart for my dental needs for 10 years and am extremely happy with the care she provides. Dr. Hart takes the time to explain to me every procedure she performs, the cause of the problems I have, and how I can prevent the same problem from happening. She is very sensitive towards how I feel during treatment and does everything she can to ensure my comfort. As a result, I feel that getting dental treatment from Dr. Hart is a relatively easy experience. Dr. Hart has been skillful in performing the treatment and has always kept up with the latest technologies in order to provide the best service to her patients.

My visit to Dr. Hart was unpleasant (and it had nothing to do with my teeth). This was the first time in my life where I felt a medical professional was trying to "upsell" me into treatment that I didn't need.
Here's what happened. I walked in for a cleaning, and Dr. Hart, after a brief exam and x-rays, told me I had gum disease. She said this would require scaling and root planing over the course of two additional appointments. I was taken aback, since my previous dentist had never given me this kind of diagnosis. When I expressed surprise, Dr. Hart became defensive. She tried to raise doubts about the competence of my old dentist (who I liked and trusted- I only left him because I moved to Cambridge).
When I asked, calmly and empathetically, more questions about what was going on with my mouth, she rattled off a list of hypothetical things that could go wrong years into the future, if I didn't get treated. It was confusing and off-putting, as though she were trying to use fear to get me to agree to more treatment.
She also did a poor job of explaining her diagnosis. Finally, she told me she was "number one in her class at Tufts Medical School," and for this reason I should trust her. Which of course undermined any shred of trust that remained! Anyway, I was so put off by her borderline hostile reaction to my questions, that I left without the cleaning.
So overall, my visit to Dr. Hart was a maximally crummy experience.
