Hailing from Staten Island, Dr. Aarti Surti is proud to call herself a native New Yorker. She graduated from Columbia University where she studied Biology and Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures. She had the opportunity to learn about organic chemistry alongside post-colonial South Asian politics. She spent much of her free time in college serving as a health educator to NYC high school teens, which sparked her interest in medicine. After graduating, she spent a few years involved in research at MIT that explored the connection between genetics and heart disease. Dr. Surti briefly left the East Coast to attend medical school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. During medical school, she not only fell in love with family medicine, but also developed a strong interest in health care policy and health care systems. She is thrilled to be a resident at Beth Israel! She feels privileged to be part of a group that strives to provide strong, just, and equitable primary care to our community.
Outside of work, Dr. Surti enjoys running, cooking, dancing, crocheting, and exploring New York.

Ok, so. ZocDoc is an awesome service. Found a doctor in my area. Booked an appointment. Got all of my paperwork in easy. Arrived ten minutes early. Well, when I come in the receptionist is chewing out a coworker. At reception. While I am waiting at the desk to speak with the receptionist. I look away. After TWO minutes, after she is done embarrassing her coworker she finally addresses me. I state my name and check in.
Two minutes later she asks me to fill out paperwork. Hmm.... Different than what I already filled out? The night before? Using ZocDoc?! Well, one was a consent form, which I understand. The other is/was basically a privacy release form. A privacy release form which if not signed will have me refused treatment. For anyone wondering what the big deal is I will mention a few. Verbatim.
°We may use information about you to contact you in an effort to raise money for out nonprofit services. We may disclose health information to a foundation related to our practice so that the foundation may contact you in raising money for our practice.
I will stop there. Others included disclosing information for all other kinds of reasons to various state and federal agencies, insurance investigations, audits,etc. Never mentioning proper lawful requisitions of said information as mentioned in other parts of the privacy release form.
The best is them reserving the right to denial of your OWN health information. While of these other entities will have access to them!
I could go on but I can be wordy so I will stop there.
I will be looking for a smaller practice with less of an emphasis on my release of privacy. You know, a doctor who treats patients simply.

My mom was thrilled by Dr. Surti's professional and courteous attention to her health needs. Made her feel very good about her visit and future needs. Office staff was outstanding as well right from reception to exam. Kudos to Liz and Julia. Facilities were very, very clean and well-maintained. Very accessible. Highly recommend Dr. Surti, you will not be disappointed.

This was my first time visiting this office. The location was really clean and well kept. I did not have to wait that long before being assisted. One of the office assistants (sorry I don't know her official title), Julie, was really friendly and professional as was Dr. Surti. Dr. Surti showed that she cared about my concerns and was determined to establish an effective plan of care to suit my needs. I would definitely recommend Dr. Surti to anyone who's looking for an awesome healthcare professional.
