Colorectal surgeon Abier Abdelnaby, M.D., offers her patients a holistic approach to care.“What I offer is more than a surgical approach to care,” Dr. Abdelnaby says. “It’s a comprehensive approach that combines skill with compassion.“Some patients are more comfortable talking about sensitive issues with a female,” she adds. “I always try to make myself available for those patients.”Dr. Abdelnaby treats a wide variety of colorectal conditions, including anal and rectal pain, anal fissures, diverticulosis/diverticulitis, colon cancer, rectal cancer, anal cancer, and more. She also performs approximately 700 colonoscopies per year.But what sets her and her colleague apart from surgeons in the community is the complexity of the cases they are able to handle.“As a tertiary care center, we get the most complex, complicated cases,” she says. “Many surgeons in the community are not comfortable operating on advanced malignancies – advanced rectal cancer, advanced anal cancer, and pelvic abnormalities, for example. We do them daily.”
