Dr. Varela did a great job explaining what was causing my symptom and what my treatment options were. He was also very patient about thoroughly answering all my questions. He had a good bedside manner. The MAs that roomed me were both very friendly and professional and I barely had time to sit in the waiting room before I was promptly called back. The front desk was very helpful and efficient.

More about Dr. Adrian Varela, MD
Dr. Varela completed his training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina in 2004. His undergraduate and medical degrees were both completed at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Varela is board certified in both otolaryngology and sleep medicine and is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. He has practiced in the Portland metro area since 2004 and founded Northwest ENT and Allergy in 2007 to provide easily accessible, community-based ear, nose, throat and allergy care for the entire family.
Dr. Varela enjoys seeing a wide variety of general otolaryngology problems, and his particular interests are pediatric and adult allergy, sinus, sleep and thyroid disorders. His office is equipped for a full range of inhalant and food allergy testing, sleep evaluation, head and neck ultrasound, endoscopic evaluation of sinus, swallowing and speech disorders. Office-based procedures for snoring and nasal blockage are also available.
Dr. Varela strives to provide an office setting that is comfortable and relaxed. Generous appointment times ensure that each new patient receives a thorough evaluation without feeling rushed or pressured.

Was an ok visit. They charged me for the normal specialist visit which was fine but then the hearing test was was almost 2x the visit cost? I’d think that a test would come standard with a first visit. Seemed a bit steep. I wasn’t told the cost until I arrived.
They couldn’t really do much for my tinnitus and the tips they gave me weren’t that great. Seems like they didn’t take me that seriously, like they didn’t really need to help me because my hearing was fine and tinnitus isn’t really curable. I got more tips from friends than there.
Overall they weren’t bad, I just kinda felt like they were like eh, you’re fine. They just said to sleep with a white noise machine. You’d think a specialist would have some more insight into some tinnitus therapies that I could look into for some relief.
Also, an additional scope was 4x the cost of the visit. Nothing was really covered, everything additional was a big charge.

Dr. Varela was awesome. I came from another local doctor who was no longer in my network but that I also had a so-so experience with. Dr. Varela spent 40 minutes with me, talking through what he saw on my scans and answering questions. He seemed genuinely interested in helping me think about my medical concerns and was not in a rush to leave. He left me with a couple options and offered to discuss next steps after I had a few tests done.

Very good, No rush, and wonderful customer service. They are great at describing everything thats good for you. There is no rush but you go at a fast pace but in a slow pace at the same time. So thats what makes it wonderful its fast but not too fast. Plus they go through all the procedures necessary and it's all for a low price.
