Dr. Alex Friedman is an orthopedic surgeon with advanced fellowship training in arthroscopy and sports medicine. He serves his community with a patient-first mindset, and is particularly interested in shoulder, knee, elbow and hip injuries and the care of patients of all ages and athletic abilities. His office is conveniently located in Tigard near Washington Square, and he works out of several hospitals and surgery centers in Southwest Portland.
He is a Pacific Northwest native and graduated from Gonzaga University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to attend medical school at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences, followed by orthopedic surgery residency at Community Memorial Health System in Southern California. Through this program he trained at Cedars Sinai, Ventura County Medical Center, Community Memorial Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Dr. Friedman completed his fellowship training at the San Diego Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship program. Here, he received advanced training in surgical techniques for the shoulder, knee, elbow and hip.
Dr. Friedman has served as the assistant team physician for several professional, collegiate, and high school teams, including the San Diego Gulls (professional hockey), San Diego State University (D1 football and soccer), San Diego Legion (professional rugby), Grossmont College, La Jolla Country Day High School and Fillmore High school. He has also provided medical coverage for various athletic tournaments and events, including the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Committed to staying active in his field, Dr. Friedman has published book chapters and numerous articles in peer reviewed journals. He has also given presentations at both local and national conferences.
