Dr. Alex Tan is the Clinical Director of Compass Eye Care. He graduated from the University of California Riverside with a Bachelor's degree in Psycho Biology. He then pursued his Doctorate at the Illinois College of Optometry where he graduated and earned honors in all of his clinical rotations. After graduation, he received extra training by completing a one year residency in Primary Care Optometry with an emphasis in Family Practice from the same institution.
Dr. Tan is highly knowledgeable and has experience in all areas of optometric care, including Eye Disease, Contact Lenses, Pediatrics, Geriatrics and Refractive Surgery. He has gained experience in difficult and complex contact lenses patients including Multifocal Contacts and Overnight Lenses or Corneal Refractive Therapy; strabismic/amblyopic ("lazy eye") patients; glaucoma patients; advanced macular degeneration patients; patients with dry eye problems; and pediatric patients.
Dr. Tan has had experience working in different modalities of optometric practices including hospital practice, private practice, and corporate optometry. In addition to direct patient care, he is also highly involved in optometric education. Currently, Dr. Tan spends his time between Compass Eye Care and the Illinois College of Optometry, where he holds the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Optometry and oversees the teaching and training of 3rd and 4th year optometry students as well as optometric residents.
Dr. Tan is member of the Illinois Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He has lived in Oak Park, IL for over 5 years with his wife Allison and their newborn son Avery and dog Anjing. When he is not working his interests include skiing, eating out, and spending time with his family.
