Dr. Shams earned his bachelor’s degree from UT Arlington, followed by a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the California School of Podiatric Medicine in Oakland, CA. He then completed an intensive three year surgical residency at West Houston Medical Center in Houston Texas, specializing in forefoot, rearfoot and ankle reconstruction including diabetic limb salvage.
Dr. Shams provides foot and ankle treatments encompassing conservative modalities and education of pathology to surgical interventions including, fusions, fractures, tendon repair, sports injuries, wound care, and diabetic limb salvage.
Dr. Shams is a former social worker, Texas native and excited to be back serving the patients of Houston. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, family, friends, NBA basketball and stand-up comedy.

I came here after a useless urgent care visit for a painful blister/corn that was preventing me from walking. I’m so grateful I was able to get an appointment the same day through zocdoc. Dr. Ali Shams-Hakimi is the nicest doctor I have ever met! He had extensive knowledge about my issue and explained everything clearly. He gave me a cortisone shot that helped with the pain and inflammation tremendously. He provided me with thorough aftercare instructions including cleaning the wound, what types of products to avoid, etc. It’s only been a couple of days and my toe is already so much better!
