Dr. Bhat grew up in Beaumont, Texas, before finishing high school in the suburbs of Houston. After high school, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in neurobiology. He was awarded a full-tuition merit-based scholarship and subsequently graduated from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center - Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso, Texas. After medical school, Dr. Bhat worked as an intern at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and then completed a residency at George Washington University, where he served as co-chief resident in his final year. Following residency, Dr. Bhat did a fellowship to specialize in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery.
Dr. Bhat can perform a variety of corneal, cataract, and refractive surgeries, including partial thickness corneal transplants (DMEK, DSAEK, DALK), full-thickness corneal transplants (PKP), corneal collagen crosslinking, refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK, and implantable collamer lens/ICL), and cataract surgery (including premium cataract surgery options such as toric or multifocal lenses).
Amar and his wife Saalini, a dentist, love spending their time traveling the world together. They also enjoy playing tennis, hiking, and cheering on Houston sports teams.
