More about Dr. Andrea Busby, PhD

I am a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in health psychology, a sub-field of clinical psychology which recognizes the inextricable link between physical and emotional health. I obtained my Ph.D. from The Ohio State University and completed my internship and fellowship training at Rush University Medical Center and the VA Boston Healthcare System, respectively. I believe strongly in evidence-based medicine, and thus offer a variety of empirically-supported treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing. I provide outpatient treatment for adults (18 and over) with a variety of psychological and physical/medical concerns, including: depression, anxiety, insomnia, binge eating, and chronic pain. In addition, I assist patients in improving management of health conditions (including overweight/obesity and diabetes), as well as adjusting to/coping with serious or chronic medical conditions (including heart/lung disease and cancer). It takes great courage to seek treatment for emotional and health concerns, as well as great strength to address unhelpful habits and thinking patterns. My first priority in therapy is to provide an open and accepting environment in which patients can discuss their histories and current concerns. Then, I seek to collaborate with patients so that we may effectively formulate and work toward mutually agreed-upon goals, whether that be symptom reduction, living a healthier lifestyle, and/or accepting the “new normal” of a medical condition while continuing to live a values-driven life.
