More about Dr. Andrew Harakas, MD

Dr. Andrew P. Harakas is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Harakas specializes in arthroscopic procedures of the ankle, knee, hip, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. Arthroscopy—which means “to look within a joint”—is a surgical procedure allowing orthopedic surgeons to insert a camera through a small incision to view, diagnose and treat problems inside a joint. According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, arthroscopy was initially used as a diagnostic tool for planning a standard open surgery, but now, thanks to the development of better instruments and surgical techniques, many orthopedic conditions can be treated arthroscopically. Dr. Harakas completed his fellowship in adult hip and knee reconstruction at Ohio State University, and he completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He earned his medical degree and completed his medicine/surgery internship at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Harakas and his wife, Norma, have five children. He is a native of Charlotte, N.C currently residing in the Gwinnett County area with his family. Dr. Harakas enjoys weight lifting and playing baseball with his sons, and is also a black belt in American Classical Karate.

Very nice doctor, Although I ended up going to Emory and was told my hand was splinted incorrectly which caused much pain due to stiffness. The splint I got in his office was unprofessional, and painful too big. Upon second visit my wait was about an hour, and he refused to change my ace bandage which was very dirty.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Harakas a few weeks ago and I was impressed with his friendly attitude and professionalism. He and his staff made me feel welcomed, comfortable and at ease with my health issues. He explained everything thoroughly and was patient when answering questions. If he were a GP, it would be worth the hour drive to receive the treatment he gives! God bless him!
