Good doctor, but seemed rush to get you out of the door. His diagnosis was OK but his course of treatment didn't help much. I had to see another doctor for the same issue. But overall Dr. Joel is a good approachable doctor whom I might visist again for other issues.

I visited Dr Joel due to a lump in my right testicle that I didn't feel in my left. He was incredibly calm and reassuring but suspected that I had testicular cancer. He got me into a CT Scan and Ultrasound for confirmation THAT SAME DAY which to me was amazing. The tests confirmed his diagnosis and he was able to schedule me for surgery the next day. He did the surgery himself and the pathology later confirmed that I had testicular cancer. It's been almost 9 months and I'm in great health. The cancer did not spread beyond the testicle and I attribute that in part to his ability to get me treated immediately.

Dr. Andrew Joel attended Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, MA, and graduated cum laude in 1997. Prior to his graduation, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha.
Dr. Joel completed both his surgical internship and urological surgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC, in 2003. During his residency, he was recognized by his mentors for his dedication to his profession and the field of urology by receiving the Outstanding Resident Teacher Award. After residency, Dr. Joel received advanced training in urological laparoscopy and in the surgical and medical management of kidney stone disease at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. During his fellowship, Dr. Joel performed numerous laparoscopic nephrectomies, partial nephrectomies, adrenalectomies, and pyeloplasties - many of them with the da Vinci robot. Upon completing his fellowship in June 2004, he returned to Washington, DC and joined the Georgetown University Hospital Department of Urology in September 2004.
In July 2005, Dr. Joel left Georgetown University Hospital in order to establish Washington Urology with his long-time colleague, Dr. Robert Mordkin. Currently, Dr. Joel is a member of the Virginia Hospital Center medical staff and serves as the Co-head of Laparoscopic Urology at the Hospital. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Most recently, Drs. Joel and Mordkin have become the first urologists in metropolitan Washington DC to perform single port laparoscopic nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, and suprapubic prostatectomy. He is member of the American Urological Association, the Mid-Atlantic Section of the American Urological Association, and the Washington Urological Society.
Dr. Joel has authored numerous journal articles and meeting abstracts on a wide range of urological issues. He has also authored chapters in both urological and primary care text- books. He has lectured locally on prostate cancer and urological laparoscopy. He has been an instructor for new urological procedures including the robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy. He has been recognized by colleagues for his dedication to his profession and the field of urology by receiving the Washingtonian Magazine Top Doctors Award.
