I've always wanted to be a doctor. My earliest memory is of when I was three years old and I was a doctor for all my dolls. For me becoming a pediatrician was a clear career path. I never thought of doing anything else.
When I walk into a room, I always get down at eye level with the child. I want them to be comfortable coming to see me. When you make care kid-centric, they respond. By the time they are 18 months of age, I want to be bonded with them. I want them to recognize my face and voice as belonging to the person who will nurture them.
The most rewarding thing for me is the long-term relationships I build with families. I'm so closely involved with parents and their children that I end up feeling like a member of the family. Knowing children for 18 or 20 years is an incredible and amazing feeling. When people ask me how many kids do you have, I'm tempted to say, "oh about 5,000."
