It’s with this joy that Nurse Midwife Annette McConnaughey, CNM, approaches her work. Not only does she find great satisfaction in helping to bring new life into the world, but she enjoys the whole process – seeing women in the office, helping them through their pregnancies and solving gynecological problems. Relishing the interactions she has with her patients and the opportunities she’s been given to be involved in their care, she believes her ability to listen, answer questions and teach women to understand their bodies, their health and any medical problems they may be facing as well as provide options and support for their choices has been instrumental in helping her deliver more than 2,000 healthy babies.
A native of Long Beach, CA, Ms. McConnaughey grew up in West LA and Northern CA. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from UCLA and worked as a labor and delivery nurse before deciding that she wanted more; she wanted to be the one who actually delivered the babies. Returning to school, she earned a degree in midwifery from USC. But her education has never stopped. She continues to learn by reading, taking classes and consulting with great doctors so that she can offer her patients the best possible care.
When not at work, Ms. McConnaughey’s nurturing side is still in full bloom. She loves gardening and especially growing roses. She also enjoys photography and hiking, traveling with her husband and spending quality time with her 13 grandchildren.
Although not fluent in Spanish, Ms. McConnaughey speaks enough to be able to communicate well in the office.

I just gave birth two weeks ago to my second child. I had the most incredible experience with all the staff at Memorial Care and at the birthing center. People were so kind, respectful and concerned with me. I felt that everyone wanted me to have the best possible experience and to give me the utmost care. My mental and emotional health throughout my pregnancy was a point of concern that was checked up on with every visit. Nothing went unnoticed or neglected. I really believe that I'm in such a great place emotionally and mentally after giving birth mainly because of how well I was treated throughout my pregnancy and in my labor and delivery. All the staff, nurses and doctors made me feel like I mattered, my baby mattered, and my experience mattered.
