As a team, we strive to promote women’s health and improve the quality of women’s lives. We specialize in the treatment of adolescent gynecology, cancer risk assessment, contraception, abnormal bleeding, uterine fibroids, menopausal medicine and minimally invasive surgery. The convenience of in-office blood draw, pelvic sonograms, and procedures with anesthesia (including hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation and hysteroscopic permanent sterilization) are also offered. If surgery is required, surgeries are performed at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, MD, and at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD.
Dr. Astrid von Walter Gonzalez joined Rockville Gynecology in October 2014 after finishing a 2 year minimally-invasive surgery fellowship at George Washington University. Dr. Gonzalez is a member of The American Medical Association and a Junior Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She has been published in the prestigious Green Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology as well as in the biweekly publication for continuing medical education, Postgraduate Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Gonzalez has a special interest in menopausal medicine and pelvic prolapse. She also has an interest in routine and complex benign gynecologic disorders and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery including daVinci™ robotic-assisted laparoscopic procedures, vaginal procedures, and office procedures such as ESSURE hysteroscopic sterilization and other hysteroscopic procedures.
Dr. Gonzalez is fluent in Spanish. When not at work, Dr. Gonzalez enjoys spending time with her family, playing the guitar and violin, salsa dancing, and watching FRIENDS reruns.

I was hopeful when I got there that it might be a timely visit but I was wrong. I waited in the waiting room for about 45 min. When I finally got to a room I waited another 45 min to see the dr. I liked her a lot but then three weeks later my prescription hadn't arrived. I called the office and they said oops, it didn't go through. So now I am out of birth control. How am I supposed to know if the prescription went through until it doesn't arrive? They should be on top of that. Very disappointed and not likely to recommend.

Wow! This entire practice just blew me away! Ladies, if you are ready to MOVE AWAY from being "herded", ignored and attempting to talk to your doctor while you are on an examination bed (STARK and cold!), please check this group out!
My past…
I became more and more fed up and even withdrawn with the lack of communication, and having my appointments become shorter and shorter! I waited longer periods to see my past doctor and she would basically just walk in and walk out! Oh yes, she also took notes (rarely looked up or communicated) on her tablet device while I was undressed. I often wondered if I should have brought my tablet in for the exam (smiles). My past experiences were just cold, odd and really completely disconnected. For this field – gynecology I truly felt the dread would just linger and fester (smiles).
Today…
Here I felt like I was listened to, I heard the statement - "your body" enough times to make me feel really good too (smiles). Great sharing of information, strong feedback, just a lot of friendly and professional exchanges!
I saw Dr. Astrid Von Walter Gonzalez, her assistant Catalena and was checked in by Julie.
All the staff seemed like they were comfortable, not losing their minds like the last cattle farm I left! Yes, a staff that smiles! Dr. Gonzalez truly gets we are women and is on the defense line for us.
I am in my 30s but saw women of all ages going to the practice. I find the latter also encouraging because as women we have not only different expectations as we age, but also different issues… I am truly encouraged for any follow-up visits.
Back in the office and saw a message waiting. It was from the patient portal at the office. My billing summary and health visit summary of my appointment was already available on the patient portal too! My results will also follow (off at lab). So a nice mix of past and present medical trends…
Glad to be off the farm! Get yourself a new experience at the gynecologist! Back to my life gals!
