Dr. Belinda Shirkey moved to Arizona from New York City where she was practicing, operating and teaching at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary since 1999. Dr. Shirkey served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at New York Medical College. She has been board certified since 1999.
Dr. Shirkey completed fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Duke University Eye Center and residency at Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital. She went to her home state medical school, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and graduated with honors. She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Society. During medical school, she was selected as an 1991-1992 Howard Hughes Research Scholar and devoted a year to the National Eye Institute of the National Insitutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Her focus was immunology of the eye. She is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialist and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
