Dr. Ben Hume was born in Brandon, SD, a small town outside of Sioux Falls, right on the MN-SD border.
He graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from Minnesota State-Mankato in 2002 and went on to obtain his Doctor of Optometry degree at Illinois College of Optometry in 2006, just two years after Dr. Korthals graduated from ICO!
Dr. Hume's family consists of his wife, Shelly, Whitley and Weston, and toddler Wells, born in February 2020. The family moved here from Colorado to be closer to family, so they've built a new home in Mound, just a few blocks from Lake Minnetonka and close to one of his sisters and her family. They are trading mountains for lakes and family! Life is a little chaotic right now, so Shelly, who is an RN specializing in interventional radiology and the ICU, is taking a break from work to stay home with their three little ones.
Dr. Hume enjoys long-distance running and is looking forward to exploring Minnesota trails and parks. He's also a lifelong diehard Twins and Vikings fan and looks forward to attending some games.
In his own words, what he loves about being an optometrist:
?I love becoming part of the community as a trusted optometrist for patients of all ages. Optometry is a very social profession, and I love interacting with and learning about so many people daily and building those relationships over the years. I also have really poor eyesight, so I love keeping up to date on all the new technology coming out and being able to offer it to patients.?
